Yahaya Idris, Lafia.
Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria Nasarawa State chapter, Comrade Idris Ojoko, has stated that the Youth Council will not interfere in the constitutional responsibility of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in its investigation of the alleged One Billion Naira (N1b) schools renovation fund.
Ojoko who was reacting to calls to comment on the ongoing investigation on the N1bn earlier released for the renovation of public schools in Nasarawa State, said the Youth Council is not an opposition party in the state and that its mandate is to influence policies that will have positive impacts on the people especially the youths
He noted that the issue at hand was raised by the State House of Assembly and not by any individual, group of persons or an organization; of which the State House of Assembly has already invited the SSG and the Hon Commissioner for Education who have stated their respective positions on the matter.
The Youth explained further that the State House of Assembly has gone ahead to constitute an adhoc Committee to dig more facts regarding the matter that will bring an end to any agitation on the matter; and neither of the groups, persons or Organizations making statements either in support or against the matter now has any verifiable facts or records on the matter.
He suggested that it will be very unfair to both the State House of Assembly and the SSG for anyone to pass a judgement or take a position now on the matter while an adhoc Committee constituted by the State House of Assembly is already conducting an investigation on the said matter.
“The findings by this Committee might indict or acquit the SSG of the said allegation.
“The Youth Council of Nasarawa State is a lawful Organization and constituted authority that support all the arms of government in improving the lives of young people in the State. The Council cannot therefore take a position on the matter, considering that the matter is already under investigation by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.” The Youth Leader maintained.
He therefore urge all the persons, groups or Organizations involved in the issue to restrain from making further derogatory statements or taking action that may jeopardize the outcome of the State House of Assembly Committee findings and the relative peace enjoyed in the State.
