Federal University Lokoja Graduates 708 Students, 29 With First Class.

The Federal University, Lokoja has graduated 708 students with 29 awarded first class degrees, as the institution held its 3rd and 4th combined convocation ceremony on Saturday.

A breakdown of the graduating students showed that a total of 435 students graduated in 2017/2018 academic session out of which 11 bagged first class degrees while 150 graduated with second class upper division.

While congratulating the graduating students for successfully completing their programmes, the Vice Chancellor, professor Angela Freeman Miri rejoiced with them for their efforts and perseverance.

“I rejoice with you warmly because all your efforts and perseverance over the years have finally yielded the much desired results culminating in the award of Degrees to you today”.

According to her ,I must advise you that as you go into the world, always remember that as graduates of Federal University, Lokoja you should strive to uphold the morals, values and ethics which the University has inculcated in you”. The Vice Chancellor added.

In his own remark, the Chancellor of the university, Muhammed Abali Ibn Muhammed Idriss, the Emir of Fika called on the Federal government to increase allocation to the university for speedy development.

“We have made passionate appeals to government, stakeholders and other philanthropic individuals and
organizations for financial support to aid the University to develop
structures/facilities at the Permanent site in order to facilitate wholistic movement to the Site.

He however said that responses to the appeals have not been very encouraging.

He said that “As the University strives to get financial support to expand its Programmes and Faculties, or establish more programmes and to embark on structural developments from other
stakeholders, we implore the Federal Government to increase allocations to the University for Speedy Development.”

Federal University Lokoja To Move To Permanent Site In October 2020

The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello hosted the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Federal University, Lokoja at the Council Chamber of Government House, Lokoja.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Angela Mary Freeman, while introducing the council members of the university, stated that her tenure will come to an end in February, 2021 and appealed to the Governor to extend fatherly love to the new council and its members led by Senator Christ Iheanyichukwu Adighije, PhD.

The leader of the delegation who is the Pro-Chancellor /Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Christ Iheanyichukwu Adighije, PhD said the council and its members were on a courtesy visit to congratulate the Governor on his recent victory at the Supreme Court, describing the victory as a well deserved.

He also used the opportunity to commensurate with the government and people of Kogi State, most especially the families of those who loss their lives during the fire incident that claimed over 25 lives along Felele area of Lokoja and pray to God for their souls to receive divine grace in eternity. A minute silence was observe in honour of the deceased.

The Pro-Chancellor / Chairman of the Governing Council stated that, among other objectives of their visit is to inform the Governor of the institution arrangement to move to the permanent site at Felele area by the first week of October, 2020 and the university need of approval for the Certificate of Occupancy, payment of compensation to land owners who have voluntarily relinquish their land to the university, perimeter fencing of the land, provision of intercity buses to ease movement of students and others from the temporary site to the new site at Felele among others.

Responding, the Governor said the Pro-Chancellor /Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Christ Iheanyichukwu Adighije, PhD was his mentor while at the Federal Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, stressing that, he is a disciplined man whose mentorship has brought him and many others to an enviable position and urged the council members to tap from his wealth of knowledge and experience for the needed development of the institution, the host community, the State and the Country at large.

The Governor appealed to the council to look into the local content of the state when the choice of the next Vice Chancellor begin and on the request presented, the Governor promised to approve the certificate of occupancy when all the processes are completed and promised to look into other demands as soon as the financial situation of the State improves.

Highlight of the visit, was an official group photograph with the governor and the council members.

Kogi Education Commissioner Lauds Ongoing Infrastructure Development In COETK, Describes Achievements As Satisfactory

The developemental strides ongoing at the College of Education Technical Kabba has been described as one that is geared towards making the College as one of the best in terms of quality of instruction and learning in the country as envisaged by Gov. Yahaya Bello.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Kabba, Hon. Wemi Jones made the disclosure while inspecting ongoing projects at the permanent site of the College, with a call for sustained efforts by the Provost and the Management not to rest on there oars.

Hon. Wemi Jones who was in the College for a working visit to inspect the levels of preparation and compliance put in place with the covid19 safety measures put in place ahead of the reopening of the College.

Hon. Wemi Jones lauded the efforts of the Provosts, commended the Provost in building the e- Library Extension, 300 capacity lecture hall, Construction of Business Education Laboratory Building, including offices and laboratory.

He described the Procurement of Education Laboratory Equipment for Business Education Laboratory, the Construction of Home Economics Laboratory Building including offices with work in progress at 70% completion as commendable.

He lauded the Procurement of various Laboratory equipments for the Home Economics Laboratory, Construction of lavatory block with Borehole, Steel Tank and steel Support under, as well as the purchase of some vehicles, described the present administration of Gov. Bello as one that makes education a priority.

The Commissioner commended the present administration’s love for education, disclosing that the administration has put in place lasting and solid legacies that would stand the test of time.

He assured that the present administration would not relent in given the needed attention to the educational sector, assuring that the College of Education Technical Kabba occupies a vital place in the heart of the Gov. Yahaya Bello’s administration.

Earlier in a remarks, Mrs Victoria Olusola Jagboro, Provost College of Education Technical Kabba, lauded Gov. Yahaya Bello for turning around the educational sector, amidst scarce resources, described the Governor as educational friendly.

The Provost disclosed that the efforts to ensure quality of learning and infrastructure is in line with the directives of the present administration, assured that the Management would always do all it can to justify the plan for sustainable education.

She said in a bid to open up the college for Government intervention and partnering efforts is on to expand the revenue base of the College, through establishing a block molding industry for commercial purposes, Introduction of new academic programs, Affiliating the college with University for degree program, Part time NCE program, setting up Skill acquisition program for artisans amongst others.
