Spread the love

Idris Ahmed, Karu.

Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa state is one of the fastest developing local governments in the North Central geo-political zone.

For the past one and a half years, the local government council led by Hon. Samuel Akala Gajere recorded tremendous and unprecedented growth and development, powered by a sense of purpose and direction with a vision to transform the rural areas into urban centres.

Residents of Karu LGA are now enjoying same what obtains in the towns and cities.

To achieve this feat the visionary Council Chairman, Akala launched sound economic policies that raised the economy of the council. The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) was technically pursued to augment the the monthly allocation from the federation account.

The Council through the passage of the Bye law number 17, digitilized and centralized the Council’s tax administration. This has helped in no small measure raise the revenue base of the council.

With its nearness to the Federal Capital Territory , Abuja, security challenges became rampant as persons with dubious characters saw the area as hideout and base for criminal activities, the Council holds monthly expanded security council meetings so as to prepare and always be ahead of the criminals. This has helped in minimising criminal activities and has as well instill confidence in the residences, investors and business community in general.

Infrastructural Development was deficient and became a source of worry to both indigens and visitors who had already developed interest in the local government to settle and do legitimate businesses.

The council therefore acquired and renovated the local government guest house in New Nyanya for the comfort of visiting special guests to the local government.

With the fast expansion of the area due to influx of persons, link roads have to be graded like the Tuturu-Capital Gateway road and the 1 km asphalt Ado – Kugbaru road which has been completed.

As part of the infrastructural development, the council reconstructed and upgraded Karu Local Government Council Legislative Chamber as well as the Chairman’s block and the local government Secretariat Complex which are all 100%

As for the rural water Intervention Projects, the Council drilled fifteen (15) boreholes across 11 electoral wards, with one motorized borehole of about 10,000 litres capacity situated in Maraba.

Despite the efforts of the Universal Basic Education Board in the provision of amenities to schools, Karu local government also assisted the schools in its Educational Intervention Projects. Seven hundred (700) wooden desk have been procured and would soon be distributed across schools.

Other efforts by the local government include reconstruction of Gitata Primary School,
renovation and upgrading of Pilot Primary Schools at Masaka, Saka, Uke and Takalafia.

Also renovated and upgraded are Koso Primary School in Panda Development Area. as well as Maraba Gurku Primary School.

Within the short period, despite the meagre resources Karu local government was able to intervene in the Primary Health Care projects such as fencing and renovation of ALGON Clinic Karu, and the Primary Health Care clinic at Nyanya Gwandara.

Tudu Uku Primary Health Care Clinics in Gitata, Uke and Gurku were reconstructed and upgraded during the period under review.

In a human development, Akala empowered youths and other humanitarian gestures across the council area.

Akala who is youthful and resourceful, has exceeded all expectations in Karu, having accomplished so much with so little, can now confidently say Karu is in the hands of God and safe under the watch of a true progressive, Hon Samuel Akala Gajere.

IG of Police, Mohammed Adamu

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Muhammed Abubakar Adamu, must urgently bring Chief Godwin Ukori, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Godwin Obaseki, to deserved justice for allegedly shooting dead Mrs. Yado Odogbo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member on Saturday, 19 September 2020 in Nikorogha Ward, Ovia South-West local government area, Edo state.

Making the call on Sunday in a release in Benin, the capital, APC noted “The gruesome killing of Odogbo in Unit 6 Nikorogha Ward was just one of very many despicable, callous and violent acts foisted by the PDP across parts of the state to win the Saturday’s election at all cost. From Uhunmwode in Urhonigbe North, to Orhionmwon, Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha local Government, and several other places in Edo central and Ego North, INEC officers ran away, while voters took to their heels for dear lives as a result of sporadic shootings by PDP agents of death.”

It said: “As they came into the voting environment and upon sighting our party member called Pastor Bishop, Ukori and his men started shooting at him. It is during the shooting that Odogbo was sighted and shot at the head, dying instantly. Her family who are strong APC members has written a petition to Zone 5 and Zone 5 officers have gone to Asaba to effect arrest of Ukori, Obaseki’s SSA on Security. We don’t know if he has been arrested.”

The release, signed by Mr. John Mayaki, clarified that Odogbo was on the said day at the polling station to vote, and was reportedly awaiting her turn, like many others, “when the hoodlums stormed the centre shooting into the midst of voters, party agents and INEC officials. While many scampered and escaped the scene, Odogbo was not fortunate.”

It said: “The blood of Odogbo cries for justice. Those who shot her, making her grisly and ghastly remains the subject of pitiful attention for almost one hour as police officials were being awaited to evacuate same, must be served justice of equal weight. Why PDP, using Ukori, decided to terminate our members life just because she wanted to perform her civic role must be questioned and punished.

“Others who allegedly came with guns in company of Ukori included Kulemine Allah, Tubesa Allah, Jephet Ebiwei, Wisdom Gamine Ebiwei, Gbolu Ebiwei and Ejorliyor Ogodogodo Gibi. As a party, we have done everything possible to stop our enraged members from taking laws into their hands. Pastor Ize-Iyamu has been busy in the last few days visiting and appealing to the bereaved family, as well as those who suffered injuries in whatever way, to exercise restraint, promising them justice and pledging supports.

“As a party, we expressed our commitment to engage in non-violent election and results of our unflagging commitment is now being seen through Odogbo who now lies at the mortuary. Many others who suffered degrees of bruises and wounds have been receiving treatments across various private hospitals in the state.

“The option of peace will be sustainable if and only if justice is served and at the quickest possible time. We lamented the plans of PDP to kill and make voting difficult for our members and the Edo state electorate before and while the election was going on. We were entirely aware of the thugs Obaseki prepared weeks before the election day, and how gun trainings were being undertaken, to declare that the election was indeed war.

“The story now is that PDP, particularly Ukori, has been going round and warning our members in Ovia South-West, as well as other councils, never to disclose what they experienced during the election. Many of our people are now nursing gunshot wounds, and wounds sustained in stampedes occasioned by violence instantiated by PDP daredevils.

“We urge the IG to order the arrest of Ukori and the six others for diligent prosecution and deserved justice, and to investigate several other cases of violence and unrests caused by the PDP. This call is the least we could do in the face of torments and provocation by Obaseki and his party who again have been arresting our members across the councils on trumped allegations, using men of the Nigeria Police,” the statement said.

Minister of information and Communication, Mr. Lai Mohammed.

The minister of information, Lai Mohammed on Saturday said the recent increase in the price of electricity and fuel pump will certainly benefit ordinary Nigerians in the long run.

Mr Mohammed made the remarks while meeting with online publishers in Lagos.

He also appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress to shelve its industrial action planned for Monday.

The planned action, which is being organised as a protest against the increases, can only bring more hardship to ordinary Nigerians, Mr Mohammed argued.

“Ordinary citizens are not the beneficiaries of the subsidy on petroleum products that has lasted for years,” the Minister said, adding that the government can no longer afford the cost of the subsidy.

The Minister also argued that despite the increase, Nigerians still pay less for fuel, compared to neighbouring countries.

On electricity, Mr Mohammed said the hike will lead to increased quality in the supply of power, noting that the government cannot sustain its subsidy to the sector.

Again, he stressed that Nigerians still pay less for electricity, compared to people in neighbouring countries.

“We thank Nigerians for their understanding, and wish to appeal to them to please bear with the government,” he said

Spread the love

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has said that his administration enjoys excellent working relationship with the judiciary, as well as the legislature. Engineer Sule stated this while hosting the President and members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), at the Government House, on Tuesday. According to the Governor, as a further means to foster cordial relationship between the three arms of government in Nasarawa State, the executive, judiciary and legislature will parley together next week, with a view to appraising how well to serve the state and the people. Engineer Sule explained that even though Nasarawa State was able to resolve many of her security challenges, there are still grey areas that required further clarification so that people who do not mean well for the state, can be effectively prosecuted. “We believe it is necessary for us to sit down together to be able to prosecute and send the people who don’t mean well to jail where they belong,” the Governor stated. He used the opportunity of the visit to highlight inroads by his administration in the judiciary, stressing that government will always provide necessary tools to ensure efficient discharge of responsibilities. “On assumption of office, I realised that some of our magistrates are going to work on motorcycles. “Within a short time, we were able to provide each magistrate with a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of their responsibility,” he said. While commenting on the effort of his administration to provide affordable housing for the people of the state, Engineer Sule disclosed that his administration will be more than willing to allocate 50 houses to lawyers in the state. “As I am talking to you, we have Family Homes, as well as various other developers that are building homes and they are going to be giving to the various people living in Nasarawa state at subsidized rates. “I will be more than happy if you select, like say you have 50 lawyers now you want them to be giving houses, we will be more than happy to give them 50 houses so that they can start with that,” the Governor said. Earlier, in his opening speech, the NBA President, Olumide Akpata, said he was in Nasarawa State to meet with members of the bar, with a view to understanding the issues affecting the members.
