The Egbira Cultural and Development Association (ECDA) Kogi state chapter has condemned the attack by some criminals on Tawari village of Kogi local government area of Kogi state, where 23 people were killed and property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
In a statement signed by Mallam Muhammed Bature Idris and Mallam Isa Abubakar Ada Abu, Chairman and Secretary respectively, the Association expressed its anger and disgust on the senseless killings of innocent people in Tawari by unknown persons.
“While we condole the families of those that lost their lives, the Kogi State government, Kogi LGA, the Ohimege Igu and his council of Chiefs and the entire people of Tawari, we equally call on the security agencies to be more proactive against future occurrence
We also advise the Kogi state government to as a matter of urgency comb the Tawari area down to the border of Nasarawa and Kogi states, where some strange elements are suspected to be hibernating”
ECDA alleged that renegades that escaped from other volatile areas are regrouping in some parts of Kogi and Nasarwa states. Sardauna and Uttu villages in Toto Local government area of Nasarawa state and Kpokpolobi in Kogi LGA have been turned into camps for robbers and kidnappers terrorising people in the two states and the FCT.
The Association further alleged that the invaders are many and 0are said to be using motor cycles for their operations just like the Boko Haram, the Birnin Gwari marauders and the Daral Salam fighters that were decimated in Niger state.
The Egbira Cultural Development Association therefore call on the Nasarawa, Kogi states and the FCT administrations to organise a joint security operation to mop up the areas and flush out the criminals terrorising the people.
“If security agencies leave our people to the mercy of these dangerous criminals, we will have no option than to embark on self help to defend ourselves, ” the cultural association demanded.
The group also called on the people irrespective of ethnicity, religion or place of abode to unite and flush the criminals out of the area. They urged them to volunteer credible and useful information to the relevant authorities promptly to avert another occurrence.
ECDA commended Kogi state government for the security architecture it has put in place , saying that the Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello has proven that his administration is security conscious.
“We wish to appeal to the Governor to engage more vigilante, and encourage them with all that is necessary to boost their morale,” the group pleaded.
