Governor Bello Inaugurates Committee For Negotiation On New Minimum Wage

Determined to settle the yearnings of workers, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Tuesday inaugurated a 17-man committee for the negotiations on the new minimum wage of N30,000 for workers in the state.

During the inauguration ceremony held at the Banquet hall, Government House, Lokoja, the governor appreciated the leadership of the organised labour for their cooperation, patience, guidance and collaboration in setting a reformed civil service for the State.

Bello also commended Kogi workforce for their understanding and for bearing whatever pain that came along with the reform, saying it was for the good and the future of the state.

He equally thanked the New Direction Team members, who were actively involved in the exercise for their time, sacrifice, creativity and endurance to see that the exercise saw the light of the day.

Bello, who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward David Onoja, affirmed that it was another step in the right direction where dialogue remained preferable than confrontation, hence the setting up of the committee,

According to him, it is to simply   discuss  using facts and figures and  comparative analysis to be able to agree to terms that would guide both parties regarding the newly increased minimum wage for civil service in Nigeria to N30, 000.

He noted that there was no doubt in his mind that the committee which comprises the government and the labour sides, would do justice to the all important exercise.

Truely, it is expected that there would be divergence views and conflicting information, but at the end of the day, the interest of both sides is to see a better Kogi state, a motivated workforce, and a reformed system for the good of all.

”We expected that in the presence of those divergence, different figures and views, you must come to a convergent point; all for the interest of our dear state.

”I believe that this would be the outcome at the end of the day,” he said.

The governor, however read out the terms of reference that would guide the committee in carrying out their assigned task.

They included: ”To obtain and study the National minimum wage amendment act 2019 and the consequential adjustment at the federal level.

”Obtain and study the copies of agreement reached between the federal government and the organized labour in line with the consequential adjustment/increase in all the salary structures.

”To liaise with the federal ministry of Labour and Employment if necessary for technical assistant on the implementation of the new minimum wage for States.

”To develop and advise government on how to successfully bring about a smooth implementation of the intending wage increase.

”Identify new revenue sources as well as areas of existing expenditures where some savings could be made in order to fund the wage increments without adversely impacting on the development of the state.

”Propose a work plan and modalities for the implementation for the salary increases.

”Understudy the States that have already commenced the implementation of the new minimum wage for proper guidance especially the North Central States.

”And any order suggestions that may be deem useful to the implementation of the minimum wage”.

The governor, however, urged the committee to also be guided by the revenue accruals to the states vis-à-vis its ability to pay the minimum wage.

He added that the committee members were expected to start their work immediately and their final report should be ready in the next 30 days

Speaking on behalf of the members, the Chairperson of the Committee, Dr Folashade Ayoade appreciated the governor for considering the committee and for the love he has for the civil servants.

Ayoade, who is the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), promised that the committee would do their best and go strictly according to the terms of reference, saying they would all smile at the end of it all.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pharm. Jamiu Asuku, who read out the list of members of the Committee, commended the governor for considering it fit to queue behind the federal government to seeing the realisation of implementing the new minimum wage.

Mr Jibril Okeme, the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Training, Office of the Head of Service is Secretary of the 17-man committee.

Also present at the inauguration ceremony were the Chairman of Nigeria Laboour Congress (NLC), Comrade Edoka Onu, and his counterparts in Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Ranti Ojo, among others.

The founder and Senior Pastor of House of Mercy and Deliverance Ministry Lokoja, Kogi state, Prophet Gideon Isah predicted Obaseki victory amidst political tsunami that rocked the state in the recent Gubernatorial election that was held on the 19th of september.

The senior Pastor who is renowned for his accurate prophecies, miracles in the state and beyond was the first prophet to accurately predicted the outcome of Edo governorship election shortly after Obaseki resigned his member from the ruling party, after he was screened by the APC Gubernatorial screening committee.

The prediction came when Gov. Godwin Obaseki is yet to announce his political platform he would be aspiring his ambition under.

Lagos Crash Helicopter, AIB Releases Preliminary Report

A preliminary report on a helicopter crash that occurred at the Opebi area of Lagos State on August 28, 2020, has been released.

The report was made public on Monday (today) by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).

It would be recalled that the accident had involved a Bell 206B III Helicopter with nationality and registration marks 5N-BQW operated by Quorum Aviation Limited.

Specifically, the report revealed that the helicopter had a valid Certificate of Airworthiness as the pilot’s last medical examination was valid till 6th August, 2020.

The report further pointed out that there was no evidence to show that an application for the exemption provided by the All Operators’ Letter AOL DG020/20 had been submitted to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The report also revealed that the chopper had no capability to jettison fuel.

FCTA: Dr. Aliyu Inaugurates Committees On Sales, Distributions Of Agro-chemical Inputs, Charges Them To Work Diligently.

FCT Minister of State, Hon. Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu.

In fulfillment of the Administration’s desire to ensure governance serves the people and to address food security, the FCT Administration has inaugurated two committees on the distribution of grains and committee on the sales of fertilisers and other agro-chemical inputs among others.

While inaugurating the 13-man committees in Abuja, the FCT  Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, said the events are in fulfilment of the administration’s desire to ensure that governance serves the people.

A press statement signed by SA Media, Austine Elemue Said the Minister was ably represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Strategy, Prof. Muhammad Usman, who stated the terms of reference of the committees to includes: “to determine available stock and work out modalities for the sales, and to arrange for the flag-off and subsequent sales of the fertilisers, pesticides and agro-chemicals”.

The Minister equally charged the committee members to work diligently to ensure that the exercise meet its objective, warning that the committees ensure that “grains are released from warehouses, and made available to the residents of the territory in a manner that is free, in a manner that is fair and in a manner that is transparent”.

“I have on behalf of the entire FCT Administration led by Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the singular honour and privilege to welcome those of you from the Area Councils to this event. This morning activities and events are in fulfillment of the administration’s desire to ensure that governance serves the people and that in the true spirit of democracy, governance should be people’s oriented.

“As you are aware, it is an annual ritual practice, that the administration buys off excess harvest from our farmers, therefore, giving them value for their efforts and labour at the end of the season.

And before the new harvest, when prices naturally on the increase because of reduce supply in the market, the administration releases the buffer stocks to ensure that prices are regulated if not drastically lower, for the benefit of the residents of the territory.

“This morning, in the wisdom of the administration, individuals have been carefully selected to be saddled with the responsibilities of ensuring that the exercise meet its objective. That grains are released from warehouses, and made available to the residents of the territory in a manner that is free, in a manner that is fair and in a manner that is transparent”.

The minister also said that the administration would be counting on the wisdom, and the ability of the committee members to diligently discharge those responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the committees, both chairmen of the two committees, Mr. Abdul Agbade, who chairs committee on grains distribution, and Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, who chairs committee on fertilisers and other agro-chemicals respectively pledged their willingness to deliver on their mandates.

“Residents of the FCT need to be assisted in this trying times. We are just coming out of COVID-19 pandemic and everybody knows the crisis we are facing in food security. The prices of food stuffs are going up in the market and the people need to be assisted. We will do our best to ensure that these grains are sold to the people in need,” he assured.
