North Central States Accepts, Adopts FG’s Community Policing

The six states that constitutes North Central zone have accepted and adopted the community policing strategy as an effective tool for combating crimes at the grass root.

The communique issued at the end of the North-Central security summit held in Lafia, on Wednesday, read by Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule on behalf of governors from the geopolitical zone agreed that traditional rulers and community leaders will assist the police in the selection process of community policing officers to be recruited to work within the communities.

The Governors of states within the region also agreed to re-enforce and provide improved capacity for the various security apparatus in their respective states in support of community policing strategy of the Federal Government.

As part of the 11-point communique, each state within the North-Central agreed to individually and periodically undertake operations against crimes and criminality, in synergy with the police and other security agencies.

Part of the communique reads: “The states to individually, develop modalities for sharing intelligence with other states in the zone on the movement and activities of criminal within the zone.

“Each state within the zone to increase its investment in social intervention programs aimed at providing legitimate and alternative source of livelihood for the teeming youths, especially the repentant criminals.

“The state governments within the geopolitical zone to have joint security meetings on quarterly basis to assess the security situation within the zone.

“State governments to provide all necessary logistics services to enable the return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes

The security summit, organized by the office of the Inspector-General of Police, has the Governors of Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Niger and Kwara all in attendance.

According to IGP Mohammed A. Adamu, the summit provided an avenue for stakeholders from the region to interact and exchange ideas on security issues concerning the region.

The theme for the meeting was “Strategic Partnership for Effective Community Policing in the North-Central Zone/FCT.”

Hoodlums Invade Abuja Warehouses, Loot Food Items In Presence Of Security

Global Times Nigeria reports that hundreds of hoodlums, on Sunday, invaded the Idu Industrial Layout in Abuja, raiding several warehouses.

A source who confirmed the development said the hoodlums made away with bags of rice, cartons of tin tomatoes, cereals, milk, bails of Ankara materials, and other items.

It was observed that despite the presence of policemen, the defiant mob continued to plunder warehouses.

The hoodlums were seen loading tricycles and motorcycles with the stolen goods as policemen fired teargas.

Palliatives Discovered In Warehouses Across The Nation Evidence President Buhari Isn’t Nigeria’s Problem — Buhari’s Daughter, Zahra Indimi

Zahra Buhari Indimi, daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari had on late Saturday reposted a short note on Instastories, saying the discovery of food items and other COVID-19 palliatives in several warehouses across the country is evidence that her father is not Nigeria’s problem.

“Now that people confirmed that Buhari distributed enough palliatives nationwide, it is clear Buhari is not our problem,” she wrote.

It is reported across the nation that angry youths have been plundering warehouses in Lagos, Plateau, Osun, Kogi, Kaduna, Ekiti, and Kwara in the wake of the #EndSARS protests to discover some COVID-19 palliatives still undistributed.

In some instances, COVID-19 palliatives donated by the private sector-led Coalition Against COVID-19 were found in private homes of politicians.

Some of the items include cartons of noodles, sacks of garri, and bags of rice, some of which had gone bad due to poor and prolonged storage.

In Osun State, the government said it was waiting for officials from Abuja to “commission” the goods hence the delay in distributing them while in Lagos, the Majority Leader of the House of Assembly Sanai Agunbiade said he kept the palliatives in his Ikorodu home because he wanted to distribute them on his birthday.

In Kogi State, the Governor has order for Immediate distribution of items to the most vulnerable people across the State.

Several high-profile individuals such as Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and Tony Elumelu had donated billions of naira in cash and food items to assist federal and state governments in helping vulnerable families amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

KDSG Imposes Curfew In Parts Of Chikun, Kaduna South LGAs

The Kaduna State Government has declared 24 hour curfew in some communities in Kaduna South and Chikun Local Government areas, effective immediately.

In a statement on Saturday signed and issue by Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, said the areas are Barnawa, Kakuri, and Television in Kaduna South Local Government Area and Maraban Rido, Sabon Tasha, Narayi and Ungwan Romi of Chikun Local Government Area.

Security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute any found violating the curfew and those responsible for breakdown of law and order. Security agencies have further been directed to effect the arrest and prosecution of anyone found looting and destroying properties.
