With the mode of stress of acquiring education in rural communities in Kogi Local Government due to poverty many families, knowing the importance of education are still struggling to ensure their children acquire basic education.
Many students who had to work hard before getting money to acquire education sometimes get discouraged when basic school needs like tuition fees, textbooks, writing materials, school uniforms among other things are not met.
To this end, the member who represent the Koton-Karfe State Constituency in the Kogi State house of assembly, Hon. Muhammed Abubakar Tanko and who doubles as Chairman house committee on Establishment, Training, Pension and public services on Friday, gave educational support empowerment to over 110 youths across 11 wards in his Constituency office Koton-Karfe, Kogi LG headquarters.
He has taken the challenge upon himself to alleviate the suffering of school children in his constituency, encourage rural dwellers and facilitate the movement of the vulnerable persons to be part of this year JAMB/UTME examination exercise.
The lawmaker granted million of naira to support education program and distributed JAMB registration forms to students in his constituency.
The gesture cut across all the 11 wards in the local government area which make the constituency got their share equally from the package.
Before this gesture, Tanko had previously rendered assistance to women and youths and facilitated some developmental milestones in the area.
Addressing his constituents, he said, “This is time to serve the people, time to unite and join forces together for the development of our constituency irrespective of our political, religious or cultural divide”.
While soliciting prayers; support and encouragement, he added, “I wish to call for unity of purpose and to encourage peace among all. We must accommodate one another, and eradicate any act capable of setting us against ourselves. We can only stand when we are united, and we can only prosper when we learn to live in peace.
Also speaking, some beneficiaries who couldn’t hide their feeling expressed gratitude to the lawmaker urges him to sustain the tempo. They also appeal to him to intervene in area of employment of youths in the LGA.
Kogi Education Commissioner Lauds Ongoing Infrastructure Development In COETK, Describes Achievements As Satisfactory
The developemental strides ongoing at the College of Education Technical Kabba has been described as one that is geared towards making the College as one of the best in terms of quality of instruction and learning in the country as envisaged by Gov. Yahaya Bello.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Kabba, Hon. Wemi Jones made the disclosure while inspecting ongoing projects at the permanent site of the College, with a call for sustained efforts by the Provost and the Management not to rest on there oars.
Hon. Wemi Jones who was in the College for a working visit to inspect the levels of preparation and compliance put in place with the covid19 safety measures put in place ahead of the reopening of the College.
Hon. Wemi Jones lauded the efforts of the Provosts, commended the Provost in building the e- Library Extension, 300 capacity lecture hall, Construction of Business Education Laboratory Building, including offices and laboratory.
He described the Procurement of Education Laboratory Equipment for Business Education Laboratory, the Construction of Home Economics Laboratory Building including offices with work in progress at 70% completion as commendable.
He lauded the Procurement of various Laboratory equipments for the Home Economics Laboratory, Construction of lavatory block with Borehole, Steel Tank and steel Support under, as well as the purchase of some vehicles, described the present administration of Gov. Bello as one that makes education a priority.
The Commissioner commended the present administration’s love for education, disclosing that the administration has put in place lasting and solid legacies that would stand the test of time.
He assured that the present administration would not relent in given the needed attention to the educational sector, assuring that the College of Education Technical Kabba occupies a vital place in the heart of the Gov. Yahaya Bello’s administration.
Earlier in a remarks, Mrs Victoria Olusola Jagboro, Provost College of Education Technical Kabba, lauded Gov. Yahaya Bello for turning around the educational sector, amidst scarce resources, described the Governor as educational friendly.
The Provost disclosed that the efforts to ensure quality of learning and infrastructure is in line with the directives of the present administration, assured that the Management would always do all it can to justify the plan for sustainable education.
She said in a bid to open up the college for Government intervention and partnering efforts is on to expand the revenue base of the College, through establishing a block molding industry for commercial purposes, Introduction of new academic programs, Affiliating the college with University for degree program, Part time NCE program, setting up Skill acquisition program for artisans amongst others.
Zulum Declines Naming Orchard After Himself, Honours Former Governor Shettima
Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday declined the naming of an orchard after him by the Ministry of Environment. He however, directed the orchard located at the Borno State University to be named after his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima.
“The Commissioner had just announced naming of the University orchard after me, instead, I have directed the orchard to be named after my predecessor. He established this University and therefore, in recognition of his tremendous achievements, I personally want to name this orchard after His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima”, Zulum said.
Governor Zulum was speaking during a flag off of 1,000,000 tree planting campaign across the state in response to changing ecosystem and climate conditions.
This year’s tree planting campaign which is the first of its kind in the last ten years become necessary due to pressures from desertification, deforestation, soil erosion, poverty, and insecurity, Zulum noted.
The Governor added that human activities like bush burning, illegal tree felling has continuously put pressure on the already fragile ecosystem thereby threatening food security.
Governor Zulum expressed concern on the desertification facing Borno State, stating that his administration is committed to reversing the scenario.
The Governor further said, “Government has already commenced raising of some seedlings, with the annual one kilometre desert reclamation programme which is handled by the Ministry of Environment.
Zulum also announced a policy under which all construction should be accompanied by planting of trees to cushion the environmental impacts of such developmental projects.
Besides, the governor also made a symbolic presentation of an alternative source of energy to firewood in form of gas cookers and wood-efficient stoves.
The campaign which kicked off at the Borno State University premises after more than 10 years was attended by the Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, Chief of Staff, Government House, Prof. Isa Hussaini Marte, Head of Service Barr. Simon Malgwi among other top government officials.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Environment, Hon. Modu Lawan Buba Walama said one million assorted trees including those with commercial values will be planted in nine Local Government Areas.
TETFUND Commends Gov. Bello On Confluence Science & Tech Varsity, Promises Support
The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Prof Elias Bogoro has commended the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello on the establishment of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Kogi State.
Prof Bogoro who received Governor Bello who was on a working visit to his office, stated that the effort of the state governor in establishing a specialised university in the state was a laudable one, assuring that the agency will give maximum support to the new university.
Prof Bogoro said TETFUND has core objective of providing funding for educational facilities and infrastructural developments across the country.
He said the mandate of TETFUND also include promoting creative and innovative approach to educational learning and services and to stimulate, support and enhance improvement activities in the educational foundation areas, like teachers’ education, teaching practice, library development and special education programmes.
He noted the Confluence Univeristy of Science and Techmology which is a specialised tertiary institution will enjoy the support of the agency just like all other tertiary institutions in the country.
Prof Bogoro said the idea of setting up a university of science and technology by the state government was a well-thought out one, noting that it will bridge the human capacity gap in the nation’s industries.
Earlier, the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello stated that the aim of his visit was to brief the Executive Secretary of the agency on the establishment of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, and to as well seek supports for the rapid development of the institution. The Governor disclosed that funds necessary for the takeoff of the school project have been earmarked but stressed that agency such as TETFUND and relevant international organisations are called upon to assist in the development of the new institution. He said in an era where almost everything are done with technology, an institutions like the Confluence University of Science and Technology will provide the needed manpower for the country in her technological advancement.
It will be recalled that governor Bello had in August 2020 assented to the bill for the establishment of Confluence University of Science and Technology earlier passed by the Kogi State House of Assembly.
