Answer: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to parley with you and express my manifesto on my mission to head Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi state, one of the ancient local government councils in Nigeria as we have been in existence from Kwara State.. Yes, I am qualified as an indigene of Okehi Local Government Council, an Ebiran, to want to contest. Moreover, our people, especially the youths initiated this movement; they organized themselves, consulted the elders, met and resolved to confront me with an appeal that I should accept and contest for the chairmanship because they appreciate my style of carrying them along during my time as a councillor.

Question: But is your ambition merely a reflection or reaction to the call on you to contest or what?

Answer: Well, before their call on me to contest for the chairmanship, I nursed that ambition for long and I have been looking forward to the good government of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to fully constitute the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) which he has magnanimously done and thus set the pace for Chairmanship and council polls to hold. I already have my programmes that would help improve lives of my people. But this can only happen or I can only deliver these programmes while at the helm of the affairs of the local government. As a citizen and as a good ambassador, I want to head Okehi council in order to demonstrate my experience, my talent in democracy. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently conducted governorship election in Edo State, has debunked claims that he is under pressure from party leaders to accept defeat.

He stated this while reacting to a report in the newspapers, urging the various media agencies to desist from speculative reporting.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in a statement signed by his Director of Communication and Media, Mr. John Mayaki said, “I was shocked this morning when I saw reports saying I begged Obaseki to return to APC after the election. While immediately responding to it, another one emerged. I will restate that I never begged him to return after the election. I deliberately did not reply when I saw all that rumour on the social media with people tagging me in them.

“Now I saw another report in the media stating that APC leaders are mounting pressure on me to accept defeat. In all fairness to the National leadership of my party, they never mounted any pressure on me. So I wonder where their source got information from. The public reposes a lot of trust in the media for authentic information. What happens when this trust is betrayed?”

Meanwhile Ize-Iyamu reiterated his earlier position that he had not yet made up his mind on the next step to take.

“I already tweeted that I am studying the result and consulting widely on my next line of action. Speculative reporting must be condemned. When I make up my mind, I will let my supporters know. For now, patience is what I implore. Not violence, not anger will help us now. Dignity will manifest in how we bounce back from this minor setback,” he said.

Edo Election: Between sentiments and rationalism: A treatise on Edo2020

By John Mayaki, Edo.

Where there is injustice, there must always be those willing to fight it. The absence of such people will signal the decline of a people. The people of Edo have been done a great injustice, and while that is enough tragedy, the bigger tragedy will be remaining in ignorance as to what exactly happened. In this short piece, let us correct the narratives.

Some major factors accounted for the peculiar events that played out on Saturday, along with a few minor ones, which I will not go into. This gives us the hope that justice will be swiftly and surely delivered to Edo.

The first was that Edo APC chose to stick to principles. The party in Edo state has always been principled. What many people do not understand is that the party has an autonomous structure at the state level and the state chapters are not controlled by any godfathers within or outside the state. We chose not to rig, indulge in electoral malpractice or obtain the mandate to govern by force. We were beaten, violated and disenfranchised, yet the narrative that went round was that Edo was not Lagos. Edo state is clearly not Lagos. But is Edo state now Rivers state?

Wike is a known dictator, with many human rights cases against him. He enjoyed bad publicity in the media until he masterminded the underhand pilfering of Edo’s election despite openly disclosing that PDP was fleecing Edo state. He mentors Edo state governor, Obaseki, in that regard and it is therefore an ill omen for the people of Edo state that a dictator like Wike could come to Edo state and impose another fledgling dictator on the people, all the while selling fake developmental strides to them.

In reality, those that supported Mr Obaseki did not care a hoot about the development of the state. They simply chose to believe unverified claims of godfatherism, discarding the facts and figures that were positioned before them.

When posterity asks them why they chose to support a man who did not work, a man who closed down their schools, a man who was a bull in the china shop of governance, and a man who ran roughshod over the traditional institutions in the state, they will have no answer.

For the supporters of APC, who were more than those of PDP, but who were prevented through all manners of thuggery and intimidation, the spirit must remain strong. APC is not disheartened. We are confident that justice will be served, and we will always stand as sentinels of justice. Not the false accusations of godfatherism, not the tyranny and oppression by the real anti-democracy actors in Edo, and not the intrusion of governors from other states can daunt the party’s spirit.

We are also confident in the support of our supporters, who have inundated us with messages of their loyalty to the party no matter what.
