Following night attacks on innocent persons by yet to be identified hoodlums, leading to loss of lives and injuries to several others, Kogi state House of Assembly has urged the state government to as as a matter of urgency, reactivate all the streetlights in Lokoja metropolis.
Ruling on the motion, of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Okehi constituency, Murktar Bajeh on the need for the state government to re activate the Streetlights in the state capital, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Honourable Mathew Kolawole, said the level of night attacks on innocent citizens has become worrisome needing urgent government and security agencies interventions.
Hon Kolawale also disclosed that activities of cultists and armed robbers has led to the death of about 3 persons with several others injured.
The Speaker who said that the need for the lighting up of Lokoja the state can not be over emphasized, directed the house committee on works and housing to liase with the ministry of works and housing to ensure proper functioning of the streetlights
Mover of the motion Hon. Muktar Baje, said the areas where the streetlights are faulty usually cast darkness thereby harbouring criminals who take advantage of the darkness to disposes people of their valuables.
He cited Government House road linking the Federal Medical Centre to IBB road, Lokoja as well as several streets across the state capital.
Seconding the motion, the member representing Ankpa two constituency, Alfa Momoh-Rabiu said a lot of abnormalities happen around the areas the streetlights were bad as such there was need to get them fixed.
Tanker Explosion: Ex- Gov Bello Aide On Students Matters Omonu Joshua Commiserates With Govt., Students, Families Of Accident Victims
The immediate past Senior Special Assistant on Students Matters to Governor Yahaya Bello, has joined his voice with that of other sympathisers to commiserate with the families of the students, Felele community who were killed during a Tanker explosion which occurred at early hours on Wednesday in Lokoja, the state capital.
Joshua in a statement he personally signed and made available to News men prayed for eternal rest of those that died in the incident and fortitude to bear the loss on part of their families as well as quick recovery for the injured.
He equally condoled the government and people of Kogi State where he hail the prompt response of the government to the scene.
Kogi Inferno: Gov Obaseki Condoles With Kogi Govt, People And Wish Them Fortitude To Bear The Loss
The newly returned Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has condoled with the government and people of Kogi State, over the tanker explosion which claimed many lives.
In the condolence message issued in Benin City, the state capital on Thursday, Obaseki said: “I condole with the government and people of Kogi State over the tanker explosion that claimed several lives.
“The explosion is an urgent reminder of the need to prioritize road and rail infrastructure development in Nigeria.”
The governor added: “Our hearts go out to families that lost persons and wish them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
Just In: Another Gas Explosion Hits Lagos
A gas explosion is currently rocking one area at Iju Ishaga, Lagos State.
According to reports gathered, many of the people who involved in the incident were injured.
The Punch reports that buildings around the scene of the explosion suffered a partial collapse. As of the time of filing this report, the details of the gas explosion were sketchy An eyewitness, Ikechukwu, said, “We just heard a loud sound around 03.30 pm and we suddenly began to see smoke.
The explosion is massive and we are not sure of the casualties but many people are injured.
