COVID-19: Kogi Residents Defy Precautionary Measures.

While the government of Kogi state said it has commenced the enforcement of the sit at home directive aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 to the state, residents of Lokoja the state capital, over the weekend defied the order and went about their normal businesses.

Kogi state Deputy Governor Chief Edward Onoja, on Friday, stated that restriction directive is precautionary in view of the increasing rate of the pandemic across the country.

“We urge our people to understand the decisions we have taken in the best interest of their wellbeing and to keep them safe from the ravaging pandemic”. Spokesman of the Squadron Committee and Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo announced to the people of the state.

“The State Government is out to protect you from the fangs of the pandemic. Our containment strategy is not to entirely lock down the State, but to restrict movement and encourage people to stay at home as much as possible and to also observe the health protocols earlier published by the committee. ” Fanwo maintained.

The residents complained that it will be sucidal to stay at home with out food, while the anticipated disease will not come their ways. “The , Coronavirus is not for the common man,but for the rich who travel to Europe and other parts of the world”.

Some residends claimed that remaining at home will be more dangerous than the dreaded Coronavirus as hunger will not spare them and their families, suggesting to the government to isolate and quarantine the previledged ones that might have travelled to the high risk countries or had contacts with the suspected victims.

Government,however insists that “COVID-19 is a global pandemic, therefore, there are global standards for managing it.

Commercial motorcycle operators, tricycle drivers and traders trooped to the streets on Saturday defying the regulations earlier spelt out by the government as part of the measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

Though the Lokoja International market was closed down, traders turned out and established street temporary markets just as they were happily patronised by their customers.

The Commissioner , said the committee has embarked on proper mobolidation of the people and warned against resorting to self medication especially taking drugs that have not been validated or recommended by the appropriate regulatory authorities

“The Kogi State COVID19 Squadron Committee is the Team set up by the State Government to work with NCDC on standards and management. We call on our citizens to route their contributions, either financial or material or even expertise through the Committee. By so doing, we shall be able to maintain the standards of resources given to our people. Our lines are always open.” Fanwo stated

“The Kogi COVID-19 Squadron Committee thretened that it will clamp down on any attempt to give unauthorized medical items to the people. All donations should either pass through the NCDC or our Committee in the State, so that we can ascertain their quality and whether their use is appropriate. We owe our citizens protection from substandard medical consumables in this era of emergency manufacturers who are out to cash in on the situation at hand.

“We wish to express our profound appreciation to our patriotic citizens who have donated medical resources through our Committee.

“Of note is a Corp Member from Kogi State serving in the FCT Others have also reached out to the Committee expressing their readiness to make donations towards battling the pandemic. Government can not do it alone. We need all hands on deck to defeat the monster staring us in the face.

“We also challenge researchers in our citadels of learning to join their colleagues around the world in halting the march of the deadly virus.” The Commissioner stated.

Prophet Gideon Isah, Kogi Pastor Who Accurately Predicted Obaseki’s Victory

The founder and Senior Pastor of House of Mercy and Deliverance Ministry Lokoja, Kogi state, Prophet Gideon Isah predicted Obaseki victory amidst political tsunami that rocked the state in the recent Gubernatorial election that was held on the 19th of september.

The senior Pastor who is renowned for his accurate prophecies, miracles in the state and beyond was the first prophet to accurately predicted the outcome of Edo governorship election shortly after Obaseki resigned his member from the ruling party, after he was screened by the APC Gubernatorial screening committee.

The prediction came when Gov. Godwin Obaseki is yet to announce his political platform he would be aspiring his ambition under.

Lagos Crash Helicopter, AIB Releases Preliminary Report

A preliminary report on a helicopter crash that occurred at the Opebi area of Lagos State on August 28, 2020, has been released.

The report was made public on Monday (today) by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).

It would be recalled that the accident had involved a Bell 206B III Helicopter with nationality and registration marks 5N-BQW operated by Quorum Aviation Limited.

Specifically, the report revealed that the helicopter had a valid Certificate of Airworthiness as the pilot’s last medical examination was valid till 6th August, 2020.

The report further pointed out that there was no evidence to show that an application for the exemption provided by the All Operators’ Letter AOL DG020/20 had been submitted to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The report also revealed that the chopper had no capability to jettison fuel.

FCTA: Dr. Aliyu Inaugurates Committees On Sales, Distributions Of Agro-chemical Inputs, Charges Them To Work Diligently.

FCT Minister of State, Hon. Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu.

In fulfillment of the Administration’s desire to ensure governance serves the people and to address food security, the FCT Administration has inaugurated two committees on the distribution of grains and committee on the sales of fertilisers and other agro-chemical inputs among others.

While inaugurating the 13-man committees in Abuja, the FCT  Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, said the events are in fulfilment of the administration’s desire to ensure that governance serves the people.

A press statement signed by SA Media, Austine Elemue Said the Minister was ably represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Strategy, Prof. Muhammad Usman, who stated the terms of reference of the committees to includes: “to determine available stock and work out modalities for the sales, and to arrange for the flag-off and subsequent sales of the fertilisers, pesticides and agro-chemicals”.

The Minister equally charged the committee members to work diligently to ensure that the exercise meet its objective, warning that the committees ensure that “grains are released from warehouses, and made available to the residents of the territory in a manner that is free, in a manner that is fair and in a manner that is transparent”.

“I have on behalf of the entire FCT Administration led by Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the singular honour and privilege to welcome those of you from the Area Councils to this event. This morning activities and events are in fulfillment of the administration’s desire to ensure that governance serves the people and that in the true spirit of democracy, governance should be people’s oriented.

“As you are aware, it is an annual ritual practice, that the administration buys off excess harvest from our farmers, therefore, giving them value for their efforts and labour at the end of the season.

And before the new harvest, when prices naturally on the increase because of reduce supply in the market, the administration releases the buffer stocks to ensure that prices are regulated if not drastically lower, for the benefit of the residents of the territory.

“This morning, in the wisdom of the administration, individuals have been carefully selected to be saddled with the responsibilities of ensuring that the exercise meet its objective. That grains are released from warehouses, and made available to the residents of the territory in a manner that is free, in a manner that is fair and in a manner that is transparent”.

The minister also said that the administration would be counting on the wisdom, and the ability of the committee members to diligently discharge those responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the committees, both chairmen of the two committees, Mr. Abdul Agbade, who chairs committee on grains distribution, and Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, who chairs committee on fertilisers and other agro-chemicals respectively pledged their willingness to deliver on their mandates.

“Residents of the FCT need to be assisted in this trying times. We are just coming out of COVID-19 pandemic and everybody knows the crisis we are facing in food security. The prices of food stuffs are going up in the market and the people need to be assisted. We will do our best to ensure that these grains are sold to the people in need,” he assured.
