Nigeria’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country rose to 542 cases on Saturday evening from 493 reported a day earlier.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced in a tweet that 49 new cases were reported in Lagos, Kano, Abuja (FCT), Ogun, Oyo and Ekiti.
With the newest update, there was a drop in the tally of daily figures released by the agency as compared to that of Friday, which recorded the highest daily figure yet.
Also, Nigeria’s death toll from the disease increased from 17 on Friday to 19.
Details of the state’s where the two new deaths were recorded were not provided.
The breakdown of the new cases showed that Lagos has 23 cases, followed by FCT – 12, Kano – 10, Ogun 2, Oyo and Ekiti one apiece.

The Governor reaffirms the commitment of the Benue State Government to addressing development challenges of the state by making the agriculture value chain a priority so as to engage young people in productive ventures.
He thanks Benue people for the support given to his administration in the last five years and pledges to reciprocate the goodwill with impressive performance as he is already doing.
Governor Ortom says his administration will sustain the tempo of providing development projects in all parts of the state.
He points out the domestication of the Pensions Law last year and the recent signing of the Health Insurance Scheme which gave rise to the establishment of the State Health Insurance Agency as some of the polices put in place by his administration to positively impact on the lives of the people.

Nasarawa Organizes Parley For Three Arms Of Government On Way Forward, Says It Will Deepen The Democratic Process – Gov Sule
Nasarawa State Government has convened a summit bringing together members of the three arms of government, namely the executive, legislature and judiciary, with a view to understanding and appreciating their distinct roles.
The summit, which is the first of its kind since the creation of the state, was organized by the office of the Secretary of the Government of Nasarawa State, which held at the Government House, on Thursday.
The parley between the three arms of government was part of activities marking the 60th and 24th anniversaries of Nigeria and Nasarawa State respectively.
Speaking at the event, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, said the summit will provide the opportunity for the arms of government to understand each other, even as he emphasized that the executive arm of government is receiving maximum support from the legislature and judiciary.
Engineer Sule added that the summit will also deepen the democratic process in the state, towards the socio-economic development of the society.
The Governor explained that top government functionaries and other critical stakeholders, from the three arms of government, to facilitate the cross fertilization of ideas, share experience, as well as appraising distinct responsibilities of the arms.
He stressed that this was with a view to evolving the needed enduring synergy for a conflict free administration, as well as reinforcing interdependence of each of the arms, according to the tenets of the constitution.

Engineer Sule said his administration has supported the call for the independence of the legislature through the provision of required tools for it to carry out its statutory functions with minimum hitch.
This is even as he added that his administration has continued to sustain its regards and reverence to the judiciary and its independence, towards quick dispensation of justice and the interpretations of the laws.
The Governor further emphasized that, considering the journey so far, especially towards entrenching the democratic process, in tune with global best practices, the existing unity of purpose, have been inspirational, which has given the administration the needed strength to forge ahead in the collective commitment to provide leadership for growth and development.
He noted that it’s however pertinent to often review certain tendencies that could jeopardize the seeming harmonious relationship between the arms of government, which informed the need for the summit.
The Governor then harped on the need for maturity and tolerance so that the arms of government can work together to the benefit of Nasarawa State and the people.
Other speakers at the event include, the first civilian governor of the state, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Suleiman Umaru Dikko, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Associate Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana and the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage, among others.
The summit has the theme: “Examining the Role of Government on Security and Economy of Nasarawa State.”
PCRC Decorates Bauchi Governor As National Patron, Present Him With Certificate Of Honour
The National leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) on Wednesday decorated Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state as its National patron.
Accordingly, the forum presented a certificate of honor to the Governor in recognition of his relentless efforts, philanthropic gestures and excellent performance towards the upliftment and development of PCRC in Nigeria.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Council Chamber, Government House, Bauchi, the National Chairman of the Committee, Faruq Abdullahi Maiyama said the honour done to the Governor was in appreciation for his outstanding support to the PCRC when he was the FCT Minister notably the allocation of land.
He noted with satisfaction, the support and cooperation of the state government to the Police Community Relations Committee in the state especially the inauguration of the Community Policing Advisory Committee and the Community Policing Committee in Bauchi.
“I am very impressed to be in Bauchi not because of the reception accorded to us, but this is the first time we are coming to Bauchi for our NEC meeting in which the governor would be decorated as the National Patron. Kauran Bauchi is a National figure haven served before as FCT Minister where he supported us in many ways.”

The National Chairman said PCRC was committed to the promotion of peace and security in the country and pledged to work with critical stakeholders in order to achieve the set objectives.
A statement issue by Mukhtar Gidado, Senior Special Assistant on Media, said Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed told the visitors that already, the state government has inaugurated the Community Policing Advisory Committee and the Community Policing Committee to assist police in curbing criminal activities in the state.
The Governor who spoke through his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela said his administration will continue to support security agencies including voluntary organisations in a move to rid the state against all forms of criminal activities and social vices.
“I sincerely welcome you to Government House Bauchi on behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, we all know the importance of community policing committee and security to our development.”
“In spite of the influx of the population of people who are coming to the state from neighbouring states, we have been able to keep the state safe with the support of relevant security agencies including voluntary organisations.”
Governor Bala Mohammed therefore reassured that, his doors will remain open for improvement in the security of the state and acknowledged the outstanding performances of security agencies in the maintenance of peace and security in the state.
