NAUS Constitutes Committee On Covid-19

The World has recently been struck hard by a novel virus and this pandemic has since taken many lives and ruptured economies leaving people all over the world vulnerable to either hunger, fear, sickness or death.

The federal government of Nigeria like other governments around the world has created committees and empowered other agencies to oversee the welfare of the masses. The Nigerian government, in order to prevent the rapid spread of the virus initiated a lockdown and in turn shared some palliative materials.

Regrettably, the palliatives have only been received by a very small percentage of the Nigerian populace.

Apparently, this is a trying time for the  world, and Nigerians in particular; most especially the Nigerian university students.

Therefore, National Association of University Students in an attempt to join and complement government’s efforts towards combating the pandemic, constituted a committee that will:

1. Monitor and assist  measure (s) taken by *Nigerian Center for Disease  Control* and the *Federal Ministry of Health* on Covid19 and the effort (s) put in place to combat the disease.

2. Educate Nigerian university students both home and abroad on the nature of the virus as presented by the world health organization.

3. Solicit and distribute  palliative(s) to vulnerable Nigeria University Students.

4. Create subcommittees  for every state in Nigeria to carryout functions similar to that of this committee which will be supervised by this  committee. Also create a committee for vulnerable Nigeria university students studying abroad.

5. Carryout any other function(s) not stated by this document that does not violate the ethics of the Association as enshrined in its constitution, in order to care and provide for the Nigerian university students.

Federal University Lokoja To Move To Permanent Site In October 2020

The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello hosted the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Federal University, Lokoja at the Council Chamber of Government House, Lokoja.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Angela Mary Freeman, while introducing the council members of the university, stated that her tenure will come to an end in February, 2021 and appealed to the Governor to extend fatherly love to the new council and its members led by Senator Christ Iheanyichukwu Adighije, PhD.

The leader of the delegation who is the Pro-Chancellor /Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Christ Iheanyichukwu Adighije, PhD said the council and its members were on a courtesy visit to congratulate the Governor on his recent victory at the Supreme Court, describing the victory as a well deserved.

He also used the opportunity to commensurate with the government and people of Kogi State, most especially the families of those who loss their lives during the fire incident that claimed over 25 lives along Felele area of Lokoja and pray to God for their souls to receive divine grace in eternity. A minute silence was observe in honour of the deceased.

The Pro-Chancellor / Chairman of the Governing Council stated that, among other objectives of their visit is to inform the Governor of the institution arrangement to move to the permanent site at Felele area by the first week of October, 2020 and the university need of approval for the Certificate of Occupancy, payment of compensation to land owners who have voluntarily relinquish their land to the university, perimeter fencing of the land, provision of intercity buses to ease movement of students and others from the temporary site to the new site at Felele among others.

Responding, the Governor said the Pro-Chancellor /Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Christ Iheanyichukwu Adighije, PhD was his mentor while at the Federal Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, stressing that, he is a disciplined man whose mentorship has brought him and many others to an enviable position and urged the council members to tap from his wealth of knowledge and experience for the needed development of the institution, the host community, the State and the Country at large.

The Governor appealed to the council to look into the local content of the state when the choice of the next Vice Chancellor begin and on the request presented, the Governor promised to approve the certificate of occupancy when all the processes are completed and promised to look into other demands as soon as the financial situation of the State improves.

the Governor stated that, the Pro-Chancellor /Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Christ Iheanyichukwu Adighije, PhD was his mentor while at the federal revenue mobilization and physical commission, stressing that, he is a descplined man whose mentorship has brought him and many others to an enviable position and urged the council members to tap from his wealth of knowledge and experience for the needed development of the institution, the host community, the State and the Country at large.

Highlight of the visit, was an official group photograph with the governor and the council members.

Kogi Education Commissioner Lauds Ongoing Infrastructure Development In COETK, Describes Achievements As Satisfactory

The developemental strides ongoing at the College of Education Technical Kabba has been described as one that is geared towards making the College as one of the best in terms of quality of instruction and learning in the country as envisaged by Gov. Yahaya Bello.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Kabba, Hon. Wemi Jones made the disclosure while inspecting ongoing projects at the permanent site of the College, with a call for sustained efforts by the Provost and the Management not to rest on there oars.

Hon. Wemi Jones who was in the College for a working visit to inspect the levels of preparation and compliance put in place with the covid19 safety measures put in place ahead of the reopening of the College.

Hon. Wemi Jones lauded the efforts of the Provosts, commended the Provost in building the e- Library Extension, 300 capacity lecture hall, Construction of Business Education Laboratory Building, including offices and laboratory.

He described the Procurement of Education Laboratory Equipment for Business Education Laboratory, the Construction of Home Economics Laboratory Building including offices with work in progress at 70% completion as commendable.

He lauded the Procurement of various Laboratory equipments for the Home Economics Laboratory, Construction of lavatory block with Borehole, Steel Tank and steel Support under, as well as the purchase of some vehicles, described the present administration of Gov. Bello as one that makes education a priority.

The Commissioner commended the present administration’s love for education, disclosing that the administration has put in place lasting and solid legacies that would stand the test of time.

He assured that the present administration would not relent in given the needed attention to the educational sector, assuring that the College of Education Technical Kabba occupies a vital place in the heart of the Gov. Yahaya Bello’s administration.

Earlier in a remarks, Mrs Victoria Olusola Jagboro, Provost College of Education Technical Kabba, lauded Gov. Yahaya Bello for turning around the educational sector, amidst scarce resources, described the Governor as educational friendly.

The Provost disclosed that the efforts to ensure quality of learning and infrastructure is in line with the directives of the present administration, assured that the Management would always do all it can to justify the plan for sustainable education.

She said in a bid to open up the college for Government intervention and partnering efforts is on to expand the revenue base of the College, through establishing a block molding industry for commercial purposes, Introduction of new academic programs, Affiliating the college with University for degree program, Part time NCE program, setting up Skill acquisition program for artisans amongst others.
