Sa’ada Court Housing Estate Residents Association in the Federal Capital Territory, has donated one Dana truck to FCT Administration for onward transmission to Apo Dutse, an indigenous community within Apo District of Abuja to convey dead bodies of their loved ones to Gudu cemetery.
Presenting the truck to FCT Administration, the chairman of the Residents Association, Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi, said the donation was to ensure that the indigenous people do not buried their loved ones indiscriminately within the estate, and on the road corridor.
Mashi, also noted that the move by the residents association to donate the truck to the community was to avert future crisis, as the temporary cemetery has been earmarked for road construction in line with the Abuja master plan.
According to him, “We noticed that there is an undeveloped piece of land and residents of the Dutse village have been using it to bury their dead ones. We made enquiries and we were told that actually it is supposed to be a major road corridor.
“So we felt that we need to assist the FCT Administration to stop the practice, because sooner or later the road will be constructed, and they will face serious problem in future. As stakeholders, we need to partner with FCTA. We wrote to the FCT Minister, and drew his attention to the issue. And the minister took the matter very serious, as he directed urgent step to be taken to ensure that the practice is stopped.
“The residents are complaining that the designated cemetery is far from the village, and if they can be given a vehicle that can be conveying the dead bodies of their loved ones to the place, it will definitely stop them from burying at the inappropriate place.
“So we levied ourselves in the estate and came up with the money with which we bought a truck and donated to the FCTA for onward transmission to the village”.
He expressed satisfaction that the residents of the estate have delivered on their promise, while calling on the indigenous people of Apo Dutse to put the vehicle to maximum use.
While receiving the truck on behalf of FCT Administration, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, commended the residents association for the partnership, noting that the donation would go a long way to assist not only the immediate indigenous community, but other residents of the area.
The minister who was represented by the Special Assistant on Area Council Service Secretariat, Alhj. Muhammad Saba, tasked the community to put the vehicle to effective use.
“We expect that they should put the vehicle into maximum use and it should be effectively maintained. It should not be used for anything else,” the minister charged.
The highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of vehicle particulars and key to the Sapeyi of Garki, HRH. Alhj. Usman Nga Kupi.

Looters Not Necessarily Hungry, It Is Pure Greed – Femi Adesina
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says the looting of warehouses and shops by hoodlums were not necessarily caused by poverty but greed.
Adesina who disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, insisted that the looting spree which occurred in days after the #EndSARS protest was propelled by greed and criminality.
He said he completely disagrees with the idea that the pandemonium which accompanied the #EndSARS protests is a true reflection of the people’s hunger and anger.
“I wouldn’t agree completely with that (that the looters are hungry) because criminality is criminality, would you justify armed robbery because the man was poor?
“Just as you can’t justify armed robbery because a man was poor and then he took a gun to rob another person. You can’t also justify the lootings that are going on. It is pure criminality.
“It is not everybody engaged in that looting that is hungry, that is the truth. It is pure greed and criminality,” Adesina said.
He added that a situation was created for anarchy in the country and this created room for criminality and looting.
Adesina insisted that the looters are not necessarily hungry and angry they took advantage of the breakdown of law and order.
The President’s spokesman said further that, “Criminality will always be criminality and mere anarchy promotes criminality. What has happened in the last two or three weeks led to what has happened now. If there was cohesion and tranquillity in society, this wouldn’t happen.
“Therefore, it was a corollary to the mere anarchic situation that came on the country because of the protests. If you didn’t have people burning police stations, killing policemen, burning private and public property, you wouldn’t have this spate of looting.”
