Idris Ahmed, Lokoja.
Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has hailed the Nigerian youths for protesting against brutality perpetrated by Police squad, popularly called SARS, describing the action as patriotic.
In a special broadcast to the youths across the country on Tuesday, the Governor also commended President Muhammad Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, (IG), Muhammed Adamu, for promptly heeding the clarion call to disband the notorious Special Anti Robbery Squad, (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force.
He however regretted that, some reactionary forces have taken advantage of the genuine protests by the youths, penetrated and hijacked the proceedings, despite the fact that the demand to disband SARS has been heeded to by the Inspector General of Police on the orders of the President.
Bello, eulogized the youth for their sense of patriotism and nationalism, advised them to disregard the infiltrators who are only out for mischief to create chaos and confusion.
He alleged that the spillover of the ‘EndSARS’ protests despite government heeding the demand of people is being instigated, by some people with ulterior motives either than police brutality, to unleash their hate and disregard for constituted authority.
The Governor who confirmed that the officers and men of the disbanded police outfit SARS have been moved to Abuja, disclosed that the entire police force will be reformed soon.
He maintained that the Buhari administration is a respecter of due process, rule of law and human rights and therefore assured the youths that their interests will always be protected and genuine demands accepted, adding that the statements made by the President were sincere and covenant, which will be implemented despite administrative bottle necks.
Bello therefore thanked the entire Nigerians especially the youths who he referred to as his constituency, for their gallantry, steadfastness and loyalty, assuring that the nation has a lot in stock for them.
Meanwhile, a group, Northern Ladies Network has called on federal government to as a matter of urgency embark on a comprehensive overhaul of the Nigeria Police Force to enable it perform more humanly in line with the international best practices.
