Agriculture: Bello Distributes 100 Tractors, Other Farm Equipments To Farmers, To Boost Food Sufficient

In his commitment aimed at improving agricultural activities, Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has inaugurated 100 tractors, other farm equipments as well as several other educational materials which included magic board and stationeries which would be distributed across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The governor in his address mentioned that such effort was part of plans by this administration to return farmers promptly to farm after the flood season and facilitate optimal production.

Governor Bello pointed out that Kogi state was taking the lead role in agricultural revolution which he said has great potential to facilitate the social and economic development of the State.

He added that the newly inaugurated tractors would compliment the recently initiated cluster Farming Model under the Kogi State appeals programs thereby ensuring maximum use of resources provided for under the scheme.

On the educational materials, he pointed out that the state remained committed to providing modern educational facilities in a bid to improve the standard of education in the State.

On behalf of the Kogi State Traditional Council, the Ohimege igu of Koto Karfe, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Sani Isakoto said that traditional rulers were captivated by the assemblage of the tractors which would be distributed to farmers across the 21 local government areas.

He said that the inauguration and distribution of the tractors was the perfect response to the devastation already caused to farmers by the already receding flood in ten local government areas of the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Momodu Salami Ozigi in his opening remarks stated that the event of the day was part of the Governor Bello led administration’s commitment to social and economic development of the state.

In a bid to boost agriculture and economic activities, Kogi state government has procured 100 tractors for distribution to farmers across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Governor Yahaya Bello, while commissioning the tractors at the old stadium on Wednesday in Lokoja, said his administration will always satisfy the yearnings of the people without being pressurised.

He said “the government is very sensitive to the needs of the people and has to act appropriately before they start complaining”.

The governor explained that the state being blessed with human and natural resources , has no option than to utilise them for rapid development, stressing that his administration is poised to ensure equitable distribution of socio- economic amenities to the people.

Bello, who lamented the devastation of farmlands by the flood , urged farmers to redouble their efforts in the quest at providing food and economic stability. ” Farmers are our hope inspite of all other considerations and that is why they should be assisted”.

He therefore charged the Directors of Local Governments ( DLGs), who are presently administering the local governments to ensure equity in the allocation and proper maintenance of the tractors.

Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Barrister Salami Ozigi Deedat, noted with admiration ,the governor’s passion for food security as farming implements and inputs have been the hallmark of his administration.

” There is no doubt the fact that the distribution of 100 tractors to the 21 local government areas is not only unprecedented in the history of Kogi state, but a major revolution in the agricultural sector that has the capacity to guarantee food security of the state in particular and contribute to the food sufficiency of the nation in general”, the Commissioner said.

FCTA: Dr. Aliyu Inaugurates Committees On Sales, Distributions Of Agro-chemical Inputs, Charges Them To Work Diligently.

FCT Minister of State, Hon. Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu.

In fulfillment of the Administration’s desire to ensure governance serves the people and to address food security, the FCT Administration has inaugurated two committees on the distribution of grains and committee on the sales of fertilisers and other agro-chemical inputs among others.

While inaugurating the 13-man committees in Abuja, the FCT  Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, said the events are in fulfilment of the administration’s desire to ensure that governance serves the people.

A press statement signed by SA Media, Austine Elemue Said the Minister was ably represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Strategy, Prof. Muhammad Usman, who stated the terms of reference of the committees to includes: “to determine available stock and work out modalities for the sales, and to arrange for the flag-off and subsequent sales of the fertilisers, pesticides and agro-chemicals”.

The Minister equally charged the committee members to work diligently to ensure that the exercise meet its objective, warning that the committees ensure that “grains are released from warehouses, and made available to the residents of the territory in a manner that is free, in a manner that is fair and in a manner that is transparent”.

“I have on behalf of the entire FCT Administration led by Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the singular honour and privilege to welcome those of you from the Area Councils to this event. This morning activities and events are in fulfillment of the administration’s desire to ensure that governance serves the people and that in the true spirit of democracy, governance should be people’s oriented.

“As you are aware, it is an annual ritual practice, that the administration buys off excess harvest from our farmers, therefore, giving them value for their efforts and labour at the end of the season.

And before the new harvest, when prices naturally on the increase because of reduce supply in the market, the administration releases the buffer stocks to ensure that prices are regulated if not drastically lower, for the benefit of the residents of the territory.

“This morning, in the wisdom of the administration, individuals have been carefully selected to be saddled with the responsibilities of ensuring that the exercise meet its objective. That grains are released from warehouses, and made available to the residents of the territory in a manner that is free, in a manner that is fair and in a manner that is transparent”.

The minister also said that the administration would be counting on the wisdom, and the ability of the committee members to diligently discharge those responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the committees, both chairmen of the two committees, Mr. Abdul Agbade, who chairs committee on grains distribution, and Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, who chairs committee on fertilisers and other agro-chemicals respectively pledged their willingness to deliver on their mandates.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the Honourable Minister of State FCT for the confidence reposed in us and will not toy with it. We will try as much as possible to discharge our responsibilities with the fear of God and in accordance with our terms of reference.

“Residents of the FCT need to be assisted in this trying times. We are just coming out of COVID-19 pandemic and everybody knows the crisis we are facing in food security. The prices of food stuffs are going up in the market and the people need to be assisted. We will do our best to ensure that these grains are sold to the people in need,” he assured.
