Ghanian Policeman Allegedly Arrested For Acquiring Gun License For Suspected Criminal In Custody

According to reports, a policeman who allegedly aided a suspected thief currently standing trial for stealing and possessing firearms to illegally acquire a gun license has been arrested.

Inspector Felix Gbekle, who is the station officer of the Nalerigu Police Station has since been interdicted by the North East Regional Police Command.

He is said to have facilitated the registration process of a firearm which was an exhibit in police custody for the suspected thief whose case is still on trial at the Nalerigu District Court.

The report also said that the North East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Kwadwo Antwi Tabi briefed the media about the incident.

He said the police inspector has been charged with abetment of crime and would be prosecuted.

Inspector Gbeklee was currently in police custody.

He was interrogated last month [September] at the Regional Police Command where he admitted to helping the suspect to procure the license at the Tesano Divisional Police Command where he was formerly stationed.

He explained that one Adam Musah was arrested for allegedly stealing a motorbike in August this year.

Upon a search in his house, the police found an unregistered pump action gun.

Musah was then charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and stealing, and was subsequently arraigned before the Nalerigu District Court.

During trial, Musah produced a license for the gun, but the police prosecutors became suspicious and prayed the court for more time to enable them examine the license and conduct further investigations.

DCOP Tabi added that it was during the investigations that the prosecutors discovered that Inspector Gbekle facilitated the gun license process for Adam Musah.

He explained further that Inspector  Gbekle allegedly  took pictures of the gun and sent it to his colleague at the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Tesano Divisional Police Command in Accra where he worked previously to facilitate the process.

When this act was detected and he was further interrogated, Inspector Felix Gbekle admitted doing that.

He was subsequently interdicted and arrested under regulation 105 of the Police Service Regulations, 2012 C.I. 76, while a criminal charge has been leveled against him.

The police commander assured the public that the accused Inspector Felix Gbekle would not be shielded, but would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others and restore public confidence in the police.

According to an online reports, ‌Men of the Nigeria Army and their police counterparts have arrived at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in a bid to foil an attempted jailbreak.

The report also said smoke billowing from parts of the centre while inmates are seen running.

It was learnt that the prison authorities had immediately notified the police and the military authorities for backup.

The eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “I can see them from my balcony at the moment. Soldiers and policemen have arrived. I saw prisoners throwing stones and I saw fire.

“A lot of the prison officials have gathered at the entrance of the prison while some of the inmates have retreated”. And Gunshots emanating from the prisons.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the cause of the fire could not yet be ascertained but policemen had been deployed in the prisons.

“We don’t know the cause of the fire but we are there on the ground. We have mobilised to the place. We will give details later,” he said.

Armed Thugs Attack Christian Procession, Beat Pastor To Stupor, Abduct Three Worshippers In Kogi

Christian worshippers in Kogi were on Monday evening attacked by persons suspected to be armed thugs who allegedly stormed Dunamis International church Ayingba .

Eye witnesses report that the pastor was striped naked and beaten to stupor, while three other worshippers were allegedly kidnapped.

According to reports, the thugs allegedly led by the former Administrator, Dekina local government council, who is also All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate, Ishaq Shuaibu Okolo.

The assailants were said to have violently disrupted the peaceful prayer walk organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria, Kogi east chapter, to pray for the peace of the country and God’s intervention to stop the current shedding of innocent blood.

The thugs were said to have shot sporadically into the air and went straight to the leader of Christians group, Bishop David Sanders, beat him, tore his clothes into shreds until he was rendered unconscious.

Several other church leaders and worshippers were also said to have been beaten to stupor including some women and children, while the property of Dunamis Int’l church were vandalised

Three other church leaders including the zonal secretary of the prayer group, Silas Edegbo were later abducted and carried to unknown destination.

Speaking with newsmen on phone, the resident pastor of Dunamis Int’l church, Ayingba, Samson Ejila expressed sadness that a peaceful Christians’ prayer walk for the country could be so disrupted with so many people securing various degree of injuries.

According to him, the organisers of the programme took permission from the appreciate authorities including the police with the knowledge of the state deputy governor, Edward Onoja, who gave them the go ahead and wondered why a prominent political player in the area could lead armed thugs to disrupt and harm group.

In his words, We are surprised that it is a past LG boss in person of Ishaq Shuaibu Okolo who is contesting for the chairmanship Election for Dec 12 LG poll that has done this to the Christians

” This is not rumours, he was the one that physically led the thugs including some Vigilante members to attack us, we have every document including video clips, and so he can not deny this” he added.

Ejila however confirmed that the three abducted members were released in the early hours of Tuesday after they had been thoroughly tortured.

Meanwhile, the State Governor Yahaya Bello has condemned the Monday’s attack on the Christians who were on a peaceful prayer walk in Anyigba area .

The Governor in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, while condemning the act, assures that perpetrators of such unholy act will be fished out to face the full wrath of the law.

Bello said at a time the nation is facing unrest and disturbance, there is need for every religion organisation to intensify their faith by praying to God for His intervention in the affairs of the country, noting that any act capable of truncating peaceful religious gathering is sacrilegious, repugnant and unacceptable.

Meanwhile, attempts to get the reaction of Okolo proved abortive as several calls to his cell phone were not responded.
