Nasarawa Assembly Pledges To Support Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum, To Address Challenges.

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has pledged to support the Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum of Nigeria in order to address the association challenges for effective service delivery in the state.

Hon. Usman Labaran Shafa, Chairman, House Committee on Health and member representing Toto/Gadabuke constituency gave the assurance while playing host to the official of the association in his office, on Tuesday in Lafia.

Labaran Shafa said that addressing the plights of the members of the association would not only ensure effective service delivery but would also improve on the health status of the people of the state

The chairman promised to present the association’s challenges before other members of the committee with the view to finding a lasting solution to their problems.

Earlier, the Chairman of the forum, Ovye Maris said the visit was to familiarize with the members of the health committee as critical stakeholders and to present some of the challenges of the association in the state which includes lack of employment opportunities, training and retraining of its members.

Maris said that there was a disparity between the Medical Laboratory Assistance, Medical Laboratory Technician and Medical Laboratory Scientist.

According to him, the three work together but the Medical Laboratory Scientist oversees the activities of the two.

He added that the two cannot work effectively without the medical laboratory scientist.

The chairman, therefore appealed to the government to understand the different roles of the three different medical laboratory staff and give each a priority it deserves when it come to employment.

Maris disclosed that there was shortage of medical laboratory scientists across the health facilities in the state while calling for recruitment of professionals to fill the existing gap.

He called on the committee to liaise with the management of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital to increase the number of medical laboratory scientists for training every year from two to fifteen, saying that it will boost productivity in the health sector.

It would be reported that the highlight of the event was the presentation of Memo which contained some of the demands of the association to the chairman of the health committee.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Health, has assured the management of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital ( DASH), Lafia of the House readiness to support in addressing the challenges facing the hospital in order to improve on the health status of the people of the state.

Hon Usman Labaran Shafa, the Chairman House Committee on Health gave the assurance when the management of the hospital appeared before the committee to defend the hospital 2021 budget proposal.

Usman Shafa said that addressing the challenges facing the hospital would not only improve on the health status of the people of the state but would also boost health care service delivery in the state.

According to him, We will do the needful to assist you to enhance your operation

” As it is said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, hence the need of our continue commitment to assist you to overcome the challenges facing the hospital.

Also contributing Hon Suleiman Yakubu Azara commended the management of the hospital for being up and doing in tackling the health challenges of the people of the state.

” You are doing well and I urge you and your management team to maintain the tempo,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Hassan Ikrama, the Chief Medical Director( CMD )of the hospital appreciated the committee for supporting the activities of the hospital .

He, however, identified some of the challenges facing the hospital to include laundry machine, laparascopic surgery equipment, additional ambulance, additional generator, mortuary fridge among other equipment.

The CMD assured of his continued determination to improve on the health status of the people of the state through initiation of good health policies and programmes.

Accountability: Nasarawa Assembly Summons Deputy Governor, State Auditor General Over Covid-19 Finances.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Ad-hoc committee on Covid-19, has summoned the Chairman of the state Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Emmnauel Akabe, who is the state deputy governor to appear before the committee on Thursday, Dec.10, 2020.

The committee also summoned the state Auditor General, Riyanu Lamus to appear before the committee on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020.

Hon Abdullahi Dahiru Angibi, the Chairman of the committee gave the summon while briefing newsmen after an emergency meeting of the committee at the assembly complex in Lafia today.

The chairman said that their summons was to enable them brief the committee  on the COVID-19 activities and its finances in the state.

” You will recalled that on August 11th, 2020, the speaker of the state assembly Rt.Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi inaugurated this  six-man Ad-hoc  committee on COVID-19.

” This is to enable the committee monitor the activities of the State Task Force on COVID-19 .

” COVID-19 cases are still on not only in Nasarawa State, Nigeria but in the whole world.

” It is in view of this that we are summoning the state Chairman on COVID-19 to appear before this committee on Thursday 10th December,2020. to furnish us on its activities and finances.

” We are also inviting the state Auditor General to appear before this committee on Tuesday , December 8, 2020 to brief this committee on the COVID-19  expenditure,  ” he said.

The chairman of the committee, has assured the people of the state of the House continued commitment to ensure that the right things are done for the overall development of the state.

It would be recalled that on August 11th, 2020, the speaker of the state assembly inaugurated the six-man Ad-hoc  committee on COVID-19 to monitor the activities of the State Task Force on COVID-19 under the chairmanship of the state Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe.

Hon Abdullahi Angibi (House committee chairman on public account) as Chairman of the committee, Hon Usman Labaran Shafa, (Health committee chairman) Vice Chairman, Hon Mohammed Ibrahim Agah muluku, Hon Daniel Ogazi , Hon Abdulaziz SK Danladi and Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara as members while the Secretary of the committee is Barr. Safiya Balarabe.

Covid-19: Dr. Aisha Buhari Lauds Jack Ma, AliBaba Foundations For Donating Relief Materials

The commitment of Mr. Jack Ma, through the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation to the global battle against COVID-19 has been commended by the First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari.

She made the commendation while receiving a consignment of COVID-19 related items such as face masks on Wednesday 18th November, 2020 at the ABF Secretariat, Abuja.

A statement by Aliyu Abdullah,
Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity (Office of the First Lady), said Mrs. Buhari noted that the two foundations and their founder Mr. Jack Ma is duly recognized worldwide for their contributions in the areas of women leadership, entrepreneurship, Education and medical intervention.

These, she said, are areas of core competence of Aisha Buhari Foundation and Future Assured, where great success has been recorded.

“I do therefore express my appreciation to the Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation on behalf of the women and children of Nigeria, and promise that the items will be used judiciously.”

Presenting the items to Mrs. Buhari, Special Assistant to the President on Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) Mr. Mohammed Albishir, said the consignment of assorted face masks, were delivered by the two foundations to OAFLAD for onward distribution to nations currently battling the novel virus across Africa. Nigeria, he said, is one of the deliveries made, saying the items are for distribution in Nigeria, especially to people living in remote areas.
