The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN) has on Tuesday, 16 Nov 2020 conferred fellow to 26 senior Nigerian Army officers. Top amongst the recipients were Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) Maj Gen Bolaji Nicodemus Salami and Corps Commander Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (NAEME), Maj Gen Dickson Ehzorobo alongside 24 others. The event took place at the Conference Hall, HQ NACST, Bonny Cantonment, Victoria Island Lagos.
In his welcome address, Maj Gen Salami stated that both corps play a very strategic role in the supply chain management function of the NA which ensures effective and seamless service delivery in all NA operations.
Gen Salami added that the importance of logistics cannot be over emphasized in any military operation, especially now that the country is facing security challenges in most of the geo-political zones.
He further said – the effective delivery of logistics principles require logisticians to constantly update themselves with contemporary logistics; particularly in the ever-changing logistics environment. “Thorough planning is required to ensure that the design, development, storage, distribution and disposition of material are kept in order to meet up with strategic objectives of the NA logistics needs”.
He noted that the knowledge gained from the institute as a result of collaboration with the NA has further enhanced proficiency of logistician of the NA, particularly in the area of procurement and supply chain management.
Maj Gen Salami added that; the choice of the CIPSMN to honour these distinguished officers was timely and welcomed. He further said, the choice came as a result of their individual and collective contributions towards the effective and efficient delivery of service both in their respective endeavours and in the current fight against terrorism, kidnapping and armed banditry in our dear country. He used the medium to assure the institution that this honour will serve as a morale booster to the beneficiaries and will assist to strengthen their commitment in their various endeavours for greater productivity and efficiency in the discharge of their core responsibilities.
In his remarks, the Registrar/ Chief Executive Officer of the institute, Alhaji Mohammed Jimoh Aliyu said that CIPSMN attaches great importance to the event as a vehicle for creating more awareness and conscious development in procurement and supply chain management sector in Nigeria.
According to him, CIPSMN was founded in 28 Jun 1974 under the name Nigerian Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management and was duly registered as a corporate body in 31 Mar 1984 which later became chartered by an Act of Parliament 21 of 30 Apr 2007 with the motto “Value for Money”. The objectives of the institute amongst others include; secure and maintain recognition of the importance of efficient, effective management and techniques of procurement and supply both in public, private and indeed defence sector of the country’s economy and to improve and encourage the maintenance of a high professional standard and status of procurement and supply personnel, generally throughout the country.
The ceremony was climaxed with the presentation of a Toyota Hiacce bus donated by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt GenTukur Yusuf Buratai to the institute.
The event was witnessed by the President, CIPSMN, Alhaji Ado Jubrin, National Military Coordinator, Mr George Omongbade Ojo and senior military officers.
Insecurity: Kogi Registers Commercial Transport Vehicles To Checkmate Criminals.

As part of measures aimed at tackling insecurity, Kogi state government has commenced registration of all commercial transport vehicles including motorcycles and tricycles operating in the state.
The Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello on Security, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), disclosed this on Monday in Lokoja at the commencement of the registration exercise holding at the Lokoja Township Stadium.
Commander Omodara stated that the registration exercise became imperative to have a data base for all commercial transport operators in order to checkmate crimes and criminalities among the populace as part of the policy formulation of the state.
The Special Adviser pointed out that Kogi state government is ever ready to prevent influx of bad elements using means of transportation to wreck havoc on the innocent citizens.
While the exercise is intended to improve on security of the state, it will equally boost the revenue drive of the government and also serve as security to the operators and their vehicles to curb theft and other criminal activities
“We have involved all the critical stakeholders especially the transport unions to ensure success of the exercise. It is for their own benefit, it is for the benefit of people of Kogi state and the benefit of the state government to have good security in the state” , he noted.
On Social intervention programmes, the Security Adviser noted that the data base may be used for State Health Insurance Scheme to help the operators, stressing that the exercise would also help in the internally generated revenue.

Kogi State Internal Revenue Service KGIRS Mr. Yusuf Abubarkar corroborated the Special Adviser on Security, stressing the necessity of having the data base of the transporters operating within the confine of Kogi state for security purpose.
He added that the exercise will be spread across the 21 local government areas of the state, stressing that every operator within Kogi State must be registered.
The revenue board Chairman explained that though the exercise is free for all for the next two weeks, late registration will attract some levies.
According to the officials, over 5,000 motorcycles in Lokoja , the state capital, are expected to register, adding that those who failed to comply will be made to face stringent sanctions.
Kogi LG Acting Chairperson, Mrs Jezhi Bako Charges Local Security Network On Sustainable Peace

Part of ongoing efforts to rid Koton-Karfe area of crime, the acting Chairperson of Koton-Karfe, Kogi local government area, Hon. Hussanat Jezhi Bako has on monday played host to some local security outfits comprise of vigilante and hunter groups in the area who paid her familiarization visit.
Jezhi Bako while receiving her august visitors recall how the local has collectively work in synergy towards securing the area from men of underworld whose past activities led to series attacks and kidnap on the most busy Lokoja/Abuja road.
In a press statement issued on Monday by Sa’ad Babankudi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Acting Chairperson, noting that the visit was to familiarize with new chief security officer of the council.
The statement added that the chairperson had prioritize security of lives and properties which was cardinal principle of present administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, Executive Governor of Kogi State.
The Chairperson while thanking them for a job well done, pointing out that security should be everybody’s business irrespective of religion, class, political status and tribe hence to sacrifice for the peace of the land. She stated.

FCT Minister Meets Police IGP, Calls For Deployment Of More Personnel To Tackle Insecurity.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has requested for the deployment of more police personnel to the territory in order to tackle insecurity.
Bello, made the appeal when he paid a courtesy and appreciation visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, at the Force Headquarters, on Wednesday, in Abuja.
The Minister, who was accompanied by some senior members of staff of the FCTA, said that the city of Abuja had expanded over the years, with high population and inevitably an increase in crime and criminality.
While thanking the police force for the near elimination of the “one chance” crime which hitherto was synonymous with the FCT, he also asked for the deployment of more equipment such as vehicles and advanced crowd control equipment.
He also informed the IGP that the FCT has keyed into the community policing policy of the government and has profiled able bodied men and women suitable for the task of community policing.
He however called for an increase in the number of volunteers allotted to the FCT.
The Minister further appreciated the IGP for the creation of a Police Division at Tungan – Maje, an FCT community bordering Niger State, while he decried a noticeable trend whereby non-residents of the FCT will come into the city for public demonstrations and in the process, disrupt the peace of the city, mainly for publicity purposes.
According to the minister, residents of the FCT are peaceful, law abiding citizens and there is the need to protect them and their means of livelihood.
He also informed the IGP that the various commissioners of police posted to the FCT have been the main drivers of the FCT Security Committee and pledged the continuous support of the FCT administration to the Nigerian Police Force.
Responding, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, appreciated the FCT administration for the support it has given to the FCT police command over the years and promised the provision of needed equipment to the command to enhance the fight against crime and criminality in the territory.
He also informed the FCT minister that the police force was ready to train the community policing volunteers from the FCT at the administration’s expense and also called for synergy between the minister and governors of states bordering the FCT for effective tackling of crimes that cut across the states.
Global Times Nigeria correspondent report that, among other top FCTA officials that joined the minister on the courtesy visit tteh the IGP, were the Permanent Secretary, FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola, the Director, Human Resources Management of the FCTA, Dr Bashir Mohammed and the Director, Department of Security Services, Mr Adamu Gwary.
