Maikaya Committed To Education As A Right For Nigerian Child.

The Maikaya Development Foundation said it is committed to providing education as a right for all and therefore prepared to ensure its success at the primary and secondary school levels.

Founder and chairman Maikaya Development Foundation, Alhaji Musa Muhammed Maikaya, (Ciroman Toto), raised the hope of the Nigerian child”s right to education recently, when he flagged off the distribution of learns materials to some schools in Nasarawa state.

The Chief Executive Officer of the foundation has promised to give the necessary support to any individuals and organisations that may want to add their quota to the education sector.

According to Maikaya, who was represented at the occasion by Comr. Shuaibu Sani, Chief Operation Officer and National Speaker Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) says free learning materials and meals were being provided for the learners as support and appreciation of the efforts of the state government in ensuring conducive learning situation.

Maikaya, who said that the Educational (Intervention) programme was put in place to support the less privileged Nigerian students, believes that provision of free learning materials will help to bridge the wide gap between the children of the rich and the poor.

The Foundation has impacted positively on the lives of the people especially the less privileged students, scholarships, medical and health care, other challenges and other pressing demands.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Mrs. Jamila Abdull and Mrs. Patient Audu expressed their gratitude to the Maikaya Development Foundation for the provision of learning/teaching materials for their children.

Recalled that Maikaya has extended similar gestures to women, youths and other stakeholders in the society where he gave out some fund to start up businesses of their choice.

Maikaya is a former Governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State, hails from Toto Local Government Area of the State.

ASUU Denied Knowledge Of Any Agreement To Call Off The Ongoing Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has denied a news report that it agreed to call off the ongoing strike after meeting with the Government negotiation team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige on Friday.

The Federal Government at the meeting at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Labour and Employment reportedly increased its offer for Earned Allowances EA to university based unions and funding for the revitalization of public universities from N65 billion to N70 billion.

There was news report that ASUU has given an indication that the meeting, the strike which started since March would soon be called off after a meeting with the leadership of union and its organs.

According to report in the Vanguard News Nigeria, the university teachers agreed to call off the strike after the government pledged to pay N40 billion for Earned Allowances and N30 billion for the revitalization of the university system bringing the total payment to N70 billion.

It was further reported that the Government agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of the lecturers before December 31.

The report also noted that ASUU was expected to report the agreement to its organs and then communicate their decision to the government after which a date for the calling off of the strike would be announced.

But ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, has denied knowledge of any agreement to call off the strike, stressing that at the meeting, it was only agreed that union should convey Government message to their organs and get back to Government.

Prof. Ogunyemi, said : ” I am not aware of that. All I know is that we had a meeting and we are going to report to our members. But I don’t know about suspension of strike.”

However, a source in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, said that after the meeting, the Minister, Senator Ngige, who described the meeting as “fruitful,” added that the government made a proposal to ASUU which it would take back to its members.

Ngige told reporters after the meeting that, “Many issues were discussed at the meeting including salary shortfall, the payment system and revitalization of the university system. I am positive that all the issues would be resolved at our next meeting.”

Friday’s meeting was about the seventh time both sides have met to resolve the issues in contention since the university union embarked on strike on March 23.

After the meeting of last Friday November 20, Government agreed to exempt ASUU members who had not enrolled in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and put them on the Government Integrated Financial and Management Information System (GIFMIS) pending when ASUU’S preferred payment platform- the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) will be approved.

ASUU had consistently rejected IPPIS, stressing that it will erode the autonomy of the university system.

The entire leadership of National Youths Council of Nigeria, Toto Local Government Council under the pragmatic leadership of Comrade Mansir Bashir Musa has joined Nasarawa populace in congratulating the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lafia, Prof Shehu Abdur-Rahman.

Chairman and Secretary of the council, Comrade Mansir Bashir Musa and Yahaya Idris Ahmed, made the disclosure in a statement at Toto Youth House on Thursday, the administrative headquarters of Toto LGC.

The Toto Youth described his appointment as timely and well deserved considering his vast experienced in education circle.

The statement also said, “we pray God to give you the zeal, strength, prerequisite wisdom to pilot your new office”.
