Imo Govt. Reportedly Empowers Youths With Rabbits

As part of effort to create opportunity for teeming employed youths Governor Hope Uzodinma during a flag-off ceremony, empowered youths with rabbits.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Friday, November 27, the Governor said he is determined to engage the youths in productive ventures like agriculture that will guarantee employment.

“We have flagged-off the commencement of the empowerment of our youths through agriculture and the official handover of the Imo State office of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) at Okigwe road Owerri as Imo is the pilot State and South East Zonal Head Office.”

“It is worthy of mention that the Federal Government, through NALDA, has empowered 250 beneficiaries from Imo State on rabbit farming as it flagged off the second phase of the NALDA empowerment scheme for young farmers in the area of rabbit breeding and rearing.

“The NALDA is saddled with the mandate of harnessing the full potentials of the vast arable lands in Nigeria for the purpose of empowering and supporting small holder farmers both on large scale and mechanized scales.

“I thank the Presidency for this initiative aimed at empowering our youths and growing the economy. I also thank the Executive Secretary of NALDA, Mr. Paul Ikonne for all the support.

“I have always maintained that the most effective way to ensure sustained socio-economic development in Nigeria and Imo State, in particular, is to engage youths in productive ventures that will guarantee their meaningful employment.

“This programme will guarantee food security, empower youths and reduce restiveness amongst other benefits and so engaging 774,000 youths across the nation would stimulate huge economic growth. These efforts will lead to food and fibre security and assist in diversifying the nation’s economy, improving household income and enhancing revenue mobilization and generation nationwide.

“The government has provided enabling environment for them, including being their primary off-takers, ready to purchase whatever they produce.

“To this end, I urge the beneficiaries to take the business seriously,” the governor said

Ondo State Govt. Organises Stakeholder’s Roundtable On Benefits Of Cannabis Plant And CBD Oil In Nigeria.

Determined to diversify sources of economy, the Ondo State government in conjunction with Culturepreneur Clusters Limited and other partners will on June 7 and 8, 2021 hold a stakeholders’ roundtable on the benefits and opportunities of Cannabis Plant and CBD Oil in Nigeria.

Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Agric and Agric Business, Mr. Akin Olotu, in a statement made available to the press in Abuja, stated that the discussion will focus on research, legalization, licensing, medical advantages, agro-economy advantages, empowerment, benefits of Internal Generated Revenues, Trade Exchange benefits aimed at furthering legislation, scientific research and sensitization on the health, industrial benefits of cannabis and CBD oil as well as engaging stakeholders’ at all levels to leverage on the multi-faceted value chain of cannabis.

The event which is slated to hold at the Dome International Cultural and Event Center in Akure , will also seek to persuade relevant arms of government on the strict regulatory measures, licensing, economic benefits of industrial benefits of cannabis plants i.e bio gas/fuel, Health benefits of CDB Oil, as well as press for genuine win -win investors and promote reliable specialized production unit of the cannabis value chain and laboratory.

Also to be highlighted are the advantages so far on the need to legalize cannabis owning to, its numerous health and economic benefits, and financial benefits of cannabis cultivation in Nigeria.

Participants will be drawn from government institutions, experts and active stakeholders’ in the value chain or research towards medical and economic prospects of cannabis plant value chain and CBD oil.

The summit will endeavor to pitch stakeholders’ to support the research and legislation of cannabis in Nigeria, which will be a quick win for foreign investment, industrialization, IGR/stock exchange, job creation, women and youth empowerment and networking, amongst others.

According to the release, the eligible targets and audience include, Medical Doctors/ Health Professionals, Pharmacists as well as Medical Researchers and Scientists

Others are soil Scientists, Seed Scientists , Legal practitioners, Media Reporters & Advocates groups, Agriculturists, Licensing and Regulatory specialists,
Investors in specific Value Chain .

Business Networking and Training Experts, Financial analysts and Business Managers, State ministries of Agriculture (crop production departments)and investors are also expected at the roundtable.

“Our Input Support Initiative Strategy Is To Boost Agriculture. ” – FCT Minister Of State

FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has disclosed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration has put in place an Input Support Initiative, a strategy aimed at increasing access to critical Agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, agro-chemicals, pesticides, feeds, irrigation equipment to support all year farming in the territory.

S.A Media To FCT Minister of State in a statement said the minister made disclosure at the flag off/roll out of Agricultural inputs distribution to small-holder farmers as palliative to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic in the FCT, organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, also revealed that under this programme, the administration provides 50 percent subsidies on all inputs.

Represented by the Senior Assistant on Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Abdul Agbadi, the minister affirmed that the policy thrust of the present administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, is human capacity development.

She stressed that the policy lays emphasis on adopting strategies that would help facilitate the growth of small businesses through improvements in Agriculture and land use which are fundamental in addressing the plight of less vulnerable groups and the attainment of food security.

The minister maintained that in the FCT Administration, the core of Agricultural policies was the implementation of grassroot developmental programmes that are targeted at harnessing the vast arable land mass.

According to her, “with a large percentage of small-holder farmers, the FCT Administration has put in place an Input Support Initiative which is a strategy that is aimed at increasing access of farmers to critical Agricultural inputs such as Fertilizers, Agro-chemicals, pesticides, feeds, irrigation equipment to support all year farming amongst others.

“It is no longer news that Nigeria’s Agricultural sector has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Therefore, we must use every opportunity to proffer measures on how to better support all the production systems towards mitigating the impact of the pandemic. We must evolve better strategies to build on what we have already been doing in our different ways and synergize efforts towards our collective desire to attain food security. There is no better time to act than now”.

Aliyu, however, commended the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other critical stakeholders for the distribution of inputs to small-holder farmers aimed at cushioning the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in the nation’s capital, noting that with the pandemic, Nigerians must begin to chart a new course for the Agricultural sector which plays a crucial role in the economic growth of any nation.

Kogi Distributes Malaria Drugs, Medical Items To 21 LGAs.

Kogi state government has distributed malaria drugs and other medical items to the 21 local government areas aimed at tackling the killer disease at the grassroots.

Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftainship Affair, Barrister Salami Ozigi, who was represented by Director Technical services of the ministry,
Mr Arome Alfa, to kick start the distribution exercise on Monday,  said it was a demonstration of the commitment of the state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello to kick out malaria fever from Kogi state.

He said the Governor has always place high priority to the health needs of the people and the reason for the administration to embark on projects that are geared towards the tackling of health challenges across the state.

According to the Governor, the local governments have adopted the policy by procuring treated mosquito nets, drugs and other medical items to be distributed free of charge in order to reduce the contacts with mosquitoes so as to improve the health status of the citizens.

He therefore commended the efforts of 21 local governments for embarking on the lofty project which is the responsibility of government to address the needs of the people.

” There is no doubt that with this project, prevalence of malaria in most rural communities will be reduced to the minimum”, the Commissioner stated.

Youth Group Defends Gov. Bello’s ambition, Condemns CECF Claims Over Underdevelopment In Kogi State

While warning that government would not condone a situation where drugs and other medical items are being diverted or sold contrary to the purpose intended, he  equally advised handlers of the programme to complement the efforts of the government by ensuring that the items are judiciously utilised.
