It was a thrilling encounter at the Holy Trinity Field Lokoja last Saturday as Federal Medical Centre Lokoja Football Club FMCL FC locked horns with Leventis FC of Lokoja at the ongoing Youth Coaches Football Association YCFA League.

The first half of the game saw the two teams display professionalism but none could see the back of opponent’s net till the referee blew the whistle.

Not quite long, the second half of the game resumed with both teams displaying fitness and skills, seeking for opportunities to attain victory but the FMCL FC had a better side of the game as Leventis received a blow at the 18th box in favor of the life savers team, leading to a penalty kick where the first goal of the match came forth.

That goal was enough for the FMCL FC to seal it’s victory to top the league as all efforts by Leventis to equalize proved abortive till the final whistle.

Speaking after the match, the Coach of FMCL FC Lokoja, Ahmed Ova Itopa pointed out that the victory was a reward for his team’s tireless efforts and commended his boys for their resilience.

“This league has been highly competitive, we’ve played against teams that are very skillful in the round leather games but God kept seeing us through. This league helps players to bring their talent and skills to bear. I tell you, topping this league has not been easy but we’ve been so determined to win. Today’s (4th December 2020) game got us a red card reducing my players to 10 but that “no giving up attitude” helped my players to attain the victory we had. Already we are topping the league with two matches to go. Whether we win or loose the rest two of which am very confident of victory, it will actually make no difference cos we are lifting the trophy already”

Coach Ova Itopa commended the leadership of YCFA for organizing the league, urging them to sustain the courage as it will go a long way at brooding young crop of players that will make impact in the circles of soccer.
