“Our aim is to get many Anthony Joshua out of Kwara Boxers”.  – Barr. Ahmed

Ahead of the Mega Boxing Bout coming up in Ilorin on the 1st of January, 2021, the Chairman, Kwara State Amateur Boxing Association, Barrister Ahmed Musa Rufai has expressed optimism that the state will produce next World boxing Stars.

Speaking with Sportspro News correspondent ahead of the bout which will hold at the Indoor Sports Hall of Kwara State Stadium Complex, he said the association has adopted the policy thrust of the Government in repositioning sports in the State.

“We have a sport loving Governor in person Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq and he has motivated all the sporting association Chairmen under the sports council to do one programme or the other event”. He said.

Rufai noted that the Association is leveraging on the  opportunity availed the sporting community to stage a new year sporting event tagged the ‘Mega Boxing Bout 2021, Another “A for AA 2021”.

“It is a Boxing bout that consist of Kwara State, Oyo and Osun State and it promises to be a mega bites”. The helmsman revealed.

Noting that boxing event will help keep the boxers on their feet and  strong ahead of the Edo National Sports festival, he added that the participation of other State is a way of motivating them.

Barrister Ahmed, who emphasised that they have been exploring many ways to get the boxers in the state connected said their aim is to get many Anthony Joshua out of Kwara Boxers.

“It will gladden your heart that we normally send every of our fight to the podium of Anthony Joshua and if people like that can say  there are athletes here that can perform ,so our aim is to get many Anthony Joshua out of Kwara Boxers. ”

The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq is expected to lead other dignitaries to the boxing event which will commence at 1pm.

Edo 2020: Kogi State Government Releases Fund To Its Contingent, Charges Them To Make The State Proud

Funds have been released by Kogi State Government to its contingent to enable them  take part in the National Youth Games tagged: “Edo 2020” scheduled to begin from forth (4th)  April 2021 in Edo State.

The State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Idris Musa (Oando), who made this known in a telephone interview with a Correspondent of Globaltimesnigeria.com, said the State have been committed to see to the development of the sector, hence the need to make funds available to enable its Contingent participate and compete with other counterparts from other States of the federation.

Kogi State government commended for its commitment in sport development and giving the youths the needed opportunity to show case or explore their hidden talents

Hon. Idris Musa noted that the sector, since the inception of the Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello-led administration in Kogi State, have been receiving adequate attention, stressing that the State government will continue to ensure the progress of the sector at all times.

The State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development charged the State contingent to live up to expectations by winning laurels at  the sports fiesta.

Hon. Oando enjoined them to continue to display team spirit, dedication and resilience, noting that such attributes will enable them make mark at the event.

Kogi State contingent will depart for the “Edo 2020” sporting event tomorrow and will take part in Cheese, Ayo, Boxing, tennis among others.

Owing to the fact that the youth  of any giving society across the glob constitute the greatest asset in development, anchored on fundamentals of peace and unity, Kogi state Governor, has shown his commitment towards achieving such objective.

Going down memory lane, Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, invited the heroes of the historic 1990 Atlanta Olympic games where the Nigerian Youths made the nation, Africa and the black race proud as they lifted the prestigious gold medal and trophy, beating all known football nations including the legendary Brazil.

In a bid to remind Nigerians on how Nigerians were united as a nation during the glorious 1994 – 1996 era of Jay Jay Okocha led Super Eagles, Governor Bello invited them and their Technical Adviser Prof. Humphrey Joe for a novelty football match on Lokoja the state capital.

The players honoured the invitation and arrived Lokoja on Monday 30th March  preparatory to the Tuesday encounter with the Kogi state Executive Council led by the Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The ex-Super Eagles players that wore their known position numbers during the encounter at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, include Austin Okocha, Peter Rufai, Kanu Nnwankwo, Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, Mutiu Adepoju and Garba Lawal among others.

The novelty march which lasted 40 minutes ended 1-1 draw, with the Governor scoring the first goal via a penalty kick and equalised by Mutiu Adepoju for the ex-Eagles.

The match was very entertaining and full of drama and comedy. There was a mock AVR to ascertain referee’s verdict, medical teams with a stand by ambulance.

In the course of the march the Governor was substituted by his Deputy David Onoja.

The Governor in his address after the highly entertaining match noted that such sporting activity was significant being that it would serve as a reminder to Nigerians how united we were as a nation during the glory days of these legends

He affirmed that their passion and dedication to the nation aside from bringing glory to the nation went a long way to integrate the various sections of the country who despite their ethnic differences were  united for the good of the country

The Governor stated that contrary to some elderly ones who were preaching the gospel of disintegration and regional separations, the youth of the nation have jointly affirmed that united they stood against  every form of ethnic divisions

There is a popular saying among the youths “Build The Youth: Build A Nation”

This is what the Executive Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami, has been doing – building youths at the grassroots through sports, giving them hope and encouraging those who are skillful in the round leather games.

Kogi Pillars FC which has the slogan “God No Go Shame Us” is the first grassroots team in the history of Kogi to represent the State in the National Division (3), also deemed it feet to appreciate the Manager of the team and Executive Chairman of Adavi LGA, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami, popularly called Lusty, for all his efforts so far.

Receiving the Award of Recognition at the Council Secretariat, Hon. Joseph Salami described sports as a veritable tool that helps foster unity among youths in a given society.

He said his passion for the development of youths was born out of his desire to see youths from the Area make positive impact wherever they find themselves and appreciated the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello for giving him the privilege to serve the good people of the Area.

The Kogi Pillars FC Manager who dedicated the Award of Recognition given him to Governor Yahaya Bello, noted that the feat achieved today by the Club was traceable to the continually support of the Governor.

“I dedicate this Award of Recognition to the Youngest, Visionary, Committed, Workaholic and the Youth Friendly Governor of our time, His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State for creating the enabling environment and giving us the necessary support at all times. Kogi Pillars FC, I appreciate you all for this gesture, God bless you all (amen)”

He noted that the Award will spur him to do more for the Club, urging the players to remain dedicated to the round leather game, obedient to instructions and cultivate team spirit.

“From the onset I do tell you people that you don’t know where this club is heading to but I know. I think you people are beginning to see things unfold today. Now we are becoming a force to be reckoned with. This Club already has broken records but, this is just the starting point. You’ve not seen nothing yet boys. Just remain dedicated, put in more efforts, strive for the best, pour out your all for this course, I assure you that you won’t regret it. We have plans and we will continue to unfold them one after the other, just watch”

He commended parents and guardians of the players for allowing their children/wards to play for the Club, expressing optimism that they will not regret such gesture.

The Assistant Coach of Kogi Pillars FC, Mallam Abdullahi Islam, while reading out the Developmental Achievements of Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami since his assumption of Office, described the Executive Chairman as one with listening ears, submissive, values people and mingles with all.

Coach Islam, who took time to highlight the achievements of Hon. Lusty so far in various sectors of the LGA, commended him for giving sports a facelift.

“Sports was faceless and stranded before the coming on board of Hon. Lusty. To God be the glory, a savior has been born and sports, especially football has been teleported to the national level.

“Kogi Pillars Football Club was a grassroots, single handedly sponsored by the Record Breaker, Hon. Lusty from grassroots soccer activities to represent Kogi State in the Nigerian league, first of its kind in the history of Ebiraland and in the history of Kogi State to have a representative in the National Division (3).

“Hon. Lusty provided all the needs and want of the club during the State, national league playoff and the awaited National League commencement. He recently donated training kits and a Toyota Hiace Bus to the Club to ease the movement of the Club to competitions”

Coach Islam described the Head Coach of the Club, Coach Ibrahim Hudu, as a great asset and prayed God to continue to strengthen him.

“Coach Hudu is a great pilot and captain of this great ship, he’s very determined, and has led the Club to win a lot of trophies. Our prayer is that almighty Allah will continue to increase your knowlege and wisdom to continue to uplift this Club to greater heights”

He also commended other management team for their efforts so far, promising that the Club will continue to live up to expectations.
