WAEC Announces Deadline For 2021 WASSCE Registration

Nationnewslead reports that The West African Examinations Council, WAEC Nigeria, has stated that 29 January is the deadline for the registration of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, 2021-First Series.

This was disclosed over the weekend by the WAEC Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu who confirmed that the report from its Zonal WAEC office, Benin City, Edo state that announced the deadline for this year’s WASSCE from was true.

Part of the information read: “The West African Examinations Council invites potential candidates to register for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination ( WASSCE)  for private candidates, 2021-First Series.

“Registration pins and information CDs can be obtained at WAEC office, Aduwawa Benin city, banks and accredited agents.

“Entry closes on January 29th, 2021. Registration fee is N3, 950, 00. “

Reacting to the release, Mr Ojijeogu explained that “The public announcement is from our WAEC Zonal offices, Benin City, Edo State. This information applies to Nigerians who want to sit for WASSCE this year. And the pin can be gotten from any WAEC office nearest to them.

Nasarawa State Varsity Gets N7m To Fight Covid-19, Says VC.

The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University,  Keffi, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed has said that the state government has supported the institution with N7million to purchase Personal Protection Equipment( PPE) in order to contain the spread of corona virus in the institution as students resumed.

Bala Mohammed made this known when the state House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology visited the school to assess the institution’s level of preparedness over school resumption.

The vice chancellor said that the institution has purchased thermometers, hand washing facilities,  face masks  among others in order to curtail the spread of the virus.

According to him, we have instructed that no face mask no entry into the school environment as we have taken the measure in order to curtail the spread of the pandemic.

” I want to commend you for  being up and doing in improving on the standard of education in the state.

” You are active and committed to the development of the education sector in the state.

” Government has fumigated all of our faculties and our health  staff have been trained on COVID-19.prevention.

” The state government has supported us with N7million to purchase Personal Protection Equipment( PPE) ,” he said.

Bala Mohammed also said the state Chairman on COVID-19, who is the Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe has approved the establishment of Isolation and testing centres in the institution.

The vice chancellor has assured of the management’s readiness to ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols  by students, staff and other visitors coming to the school.

Earlier, Chairman,  House Committee  on Education, Science and Technology, Hon  Daniel Ogazi said that they were in the institution  to assess its  level of preparedness  on re-opening of the institution amidst second wave of coronavirus.

Ogazi, who is the Deputy Majority Leader of the House said that the Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi has tasked the committee to visit schools in order to ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

” It was in view of that the committee cut short its recess to visit schools in order to assess the level of preparedness on schools re-opening,” he said.

Ogazi commended the management of the institution for providing thermometers, hand washing among others at the entry of the school, hostels and classes as well as offices and called for its sustenance.

The Chairman assured of the committee’s continued commitment to support the institution to succeed.

FG College Kano 2007 Alumni Elect New Excos

New Officials to oversee the affairs of the 2007 set of Old Student Association, Federal Government College Kano State, have been elected.

Among those elected are Lieutenant Babagida Adamu President, Hope Anigbe Vice President while Okon Andrew emerged Vice President two.

Others include Doctor Hassan AbdulRahman Secretary General, Bernard Odiba Financial Secretary, Rahmat Bashir Auditor, Fatima Mohammed Yakubu as Treasurer with Jafar Umar Welfare Officer.

The rest are; Theresa Enuulu Assistant Welfare Officer, Patience Ogbaji Public Relations Officer (PRO), Bashir Yusuf Legal Director, Daniel Obaga Sports Director as well as Rahmat Idris Editor, among others.

The election which was conducted during the 2020/2021 annual reunion of the 2007 set of the school saw the new officials emerged unopposed.

In his acceptance Speech, the President of the Association, Babangida Adams promised to work for the unity and progress of the Association, noting that he will not let members down.

In a remark, the principal of the school, Bello Rabeh, commended the efforts of the 2007 set at coming together to celebrate and foster unity among themselves.

He charged them to remember the almamata as God blesses their endeavors.

Borno Governor Approves N624.3m For Payment Of Scholarship Grant To 23, 776 Indigenous Students

With an ongoing effort to sustain his educational programme, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved N624.3m for payment of scholarship to 23,776 citizens of Borno State in 49 tertiary schools across Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Babagana Mustapha Mallambe who announced this in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that payments to students have already began with N320m paid to students in nine institutions, under the first batch while second batch of students will start getting payment on Monday, January 18, with the sum of N304.3m to be disbursed.

“From a total of N624,370,000 approved and released by His Excellency, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, for scholarship to 23,776 Borno students, the ministry has disbursed N320m under the first batch, to students in nine tertiary schools located in Borno State. Those paid include part 4 and 5 students of University of Maiduguri, students in Borno State University, Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, Sir Kashim Ibrahim College, College of Education Waka – Biu, Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies, College of Business Administration Konduga, Umar Ibn Ibrahim College of Education, Science and Technology-Bama and those in Mohammet Lawan College of Agriculture” Mallambe announced.

The commissioner added, that from Monday, January 18, 2021, the ministry will begin the disbursement of another N304,370,000 to Borno students in 40 higher institutions across Nigeria.

Dr Babagana Mustapha Mallambe also disclosed that Governor Zulum had approved financial support to resident doctors of Borno origin located in different parts of the country, to enable them fund capacity development programmes that would be potentially beneficial to Borno people in the long run.
