The businessman who was abducted in Uso, along Akure-Owo road last week, with his wife, Mr Gbenga Ibikunle, has denied reports that the duo was rescued by the police, adding that they were freed after the payment of a ransom of N2 Million.
Recall that the businessman and his wife who were kidnapped by gunmen in Uso in Owo local government area of the state, last Tuesday regained their freedom after spending 72 hours with their abductors.
The couple faulted the claims by the police that they were rescued from the kidnappers’ den, describing the claim as a blatant lie, saying no security agency including Amotekun corps were involved in securing their release.
The Ibikunles were kidnapped while returning from an outing in Ebonyi State last week while the kidnappers left their three children behind.
Ibikunle explained that the sum of N2 million was paid to their abductors, before they were released and said, “I am surprised with the claims that we were rescued by the police. This is nothing but a lie coming from the pit of hell.
“I can say it boldly that, no security agency came to our rescue. We were released around 1am after the ransom was paid to them.”
He said further that “they collected the ransom along the road without any fear. In fact, they counted all the money before they released me to my brother, who brought the N2 million.
“We were in the bush with them for three good days without food. They treated us like criminals. They beat us with stick and cutlass.
“We met a man in their den, who was also released the same way we were. His own family parted with N10 million before he was released. At a point they wanted to rape my wife, but she tricked them that she was pregnant.”
Ibikunle who said his abductors are Fulani people, lamented that Nigeria is in a big mess, “we don’t have security in this country anymore.
“It is sad that our security agencies are not effective. The kidnappers carried out their operations with impunity. They boasted that they will kill any policeman that wanted to rescue us. I am weeping for this country because we are not safe. We can no longer travel.”
Ondo State Govt Embarks On Massive Recruitment Into Amotekun To Fight Banditry
In a bid to guarantee peace and socio-economic development in the State, the Governor has deployed more manpower into the security outfit to compliment government effort.
Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has recruited men and officers into the state chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun.
Confirming the development, Adetunji Adeleye, commander of the corps in the state, stated in an interview with newsmen on Friday.
“The governor has ordered massive recruitment to the corps. The recruitment is free. You can download the form on our website,” Adeleye said.
Donald Ojogo, commissioner for information, also confirmed reports of the recruitment in a text message to TheCable.
“We have not repudiated the story,” he said.
On Monday, Akeredolu had ordered herders to vacate the forest reserves over rising insecurity in the state
He had said “bad elements” have turned the forest reserves into hideouts for keeping victims of kidnapping, negotiating ransom and carrying out other criminal activities.
The governor’s directive had sparked different reactions, with Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, saying the governor could not unilaterally oust thousands of herders “who have lived all their lives in the state”.
But Afenifere, Yoruba sociopolitical group, said Shehu’s response showed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government prioritise Fulani interests above those of other ethnic groups.
The Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) had asked herders to disregard the governor’s directive.
Herders Boasted That only Preident Buhari Can Order them out Of Oyo
A Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Igboho, has revealed that Fulanis in Igangan, Oyo State, boasted that only President Muhammadu Buhari can order them out of the State.
Igboho disclosed this in an interview published on Mama SOJ Vlog on Sunday.
He said the confrontation occurred at the Seriki Fulani’s place last Friday.
Igangan is a community in Ibarapa North Local Government Area.
The activist had gone to meet the Seriki, Saliu Kadri, to protest the killing of Yoruba individuals in recent times.
He listed the murder of an Oyo businessman and prominent farmer, Dr. Fatai Aborode, an Igangan prince, among others.
The aggrieved grassroots mobilizer also decried the massacre of Alhaja Serifat Adisa, the owner of Subawah Petroleum, and her two children.
Igboho recalled that some traditional rulers asked him to visit them over the spate of insecurity in Oyo.
“When I got there, they complained of the murders that occurred lately. They expressed their helplessness, that the situation had become unbearable and they wanted the Fulani out.”
Igboho revealed that the monarchs insisted the Northerners were behind killings and kidnappings in their domains.
“I asked about the head, they mentioned Seriki; that no one can confront him. I said how? They replied that Seriki is so powerful that when the police arrested his sons, he threatened a crisis within 72 hours. Of course the police released them,” he said.
Igboho lamented that three checkpoints were mounted before getting to the Fulani leader’s residence.
“When I got there, the Seriki called a senior Police officer. I said no problem, he gave me the phone. Just then, one of my boys called my attention that a Fulani man had pointed a gun at me, I approached and dared him to shoot. We took the gun.
“Soon after, another person fired a shot. We rushed and grabbed the pumping (pump-action shotgun). Then I went to Seriki and told him ‘These are guns’. He apologized. At that point, I insisted those who killed Doctor (Aborode), Alhaja, etc must be fished out. His response was ‘I am scolding the boys who did the job’. I said really?
“What amazed me was the type of vehicles in his compound. New Camry, Venza, Range (Rover)….cars of about N15million. I wondered if it was through N80,000 cows that he made all this money. Such funds can only be through kidnapping.
“The Fulanis around Seriki’s compound that day were more than 1,000. They were issuing threats. They said it was their land and asked if we didn’t know the President is one of them. They boasted only Buhari can order them out. I said oh, so Buhari told you to be kidnapping and killing us.
“I further stated if that is the case, you all should leave. If you cannot produce the killers of Dr. Aborode, Alhaja, Fatai, and many others, as well those who abducted and beheaded our people, the madman will murder the person staring at him. If Seriki fails to come forward with the culprits by this Friday and do not leave Igangan, we will meet.”
Asked if he is not scared that the Fulani are in control of the federal government, Igboho said they are free to own whatever they like.
“They do not own God or Yoruba land. Buhari is not from Oyo, the only power he has is to kill me on Oyo soil”, he declared.
Hours after the popular figure issued the ultimatum, Igangan residents alerted that some armed Fulani herdsmen attacked four farmers on their way back home.
Two of the victims allegedly died. The skull of one of them, Seun, was cut open with machete. The video is circulating.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government has commenced investigation on Igboho’s threat. This is amid his supporters’ warning against
