Pandemonium As Man Stabs Brother To Death Over Wife

A Tragedy struck on Friday, February 19, when a man identified as Kadir allegedly stabbed his younger brother, Suleiman, to death for confronting his wife in Auchi, Etsako West LGA of Edo State.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the brawl started when Suleiman scolded Kadir’s wife for being rude to their mother, and the matter did not go down well with Kadir, who felt slighted that his younger brother had the guts to rebuke his (Kadir’s) wife.

Kadir, who was said to be away when the altercation between his mother and his wife occurred allegedly engaged the victim who was his younger brother in a brawl but, their mother’s intervention calmed frayed their nerves.

Not satisfied, Kadir was said to have revisited the issue later in the day and again, their mother stepped in and calmed the situation. However, while Suleiman put the matter behind him and went about his normal business, his elder brother later traced the deceased to where he went to..late in the evening and allegedly stabbed him, before bolting away.

The state police Command’s spokesperson, Mr Princewill Osaigbovo, who confirmed the incident, disclosed the victim died at the St. Jude Hospital, where he was rushed for medical attention.

Court Convicts Ponzi Scheme Operator in Kano, Orders Return of N110m to Victims

Justice Lewis Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Kano on March 2, 2021 convicted one Maryam Abu Shinga on one count amended charge of retention of proceeds of crime. She was also ordered to pay the sum of N110, 000,000 in restitution to victims

The convict was said to have lured her victims into a phony gold mining investment where she represented that the investor stands to earn 300% profit. She claimed that when an investor invests N500, 000, such investor could earn N1, 500,000 (One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only) as returns on investment over a period of 4 weeks.

Investigation, however, revealed that the convict was never into gold mining or any such investment. It was also discovered that even though Shinga was able to pay some early investors with funds taken from later investors, she allegedly diverted N394,541,910 (Three Hundred and Ninety-four Million, Five Hundred and Forty-one Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ten Naira) belonging to several other investors.

Upon arraignment, Shinga pleaded ‘not guilty’ thereby setting the stage for trial.

During the trial which commenced on January 23, 2020, the prosecution called five witnesses and tendered several documents in evidence. However, before the prosecution could close its case, the convict opted for a plea bargain.

In his judgment on Tuesday, March 2, Justice Allagoa accepted the terms of a plea bargain agreement, convicted and sentenced the defendant to restitute the complainants in the sum of N110, 000,000.

NDLEA Nab Suspected Drug Syndicate Who Imports Sophisticated Drugs baked In Cakes, Biscuits For Elites In Lagos

The Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has nabbed Samuel Ebenezer, the leader of a syndicate that specializes in importing edibles and other confections (laced with drugs) for the elites in Lagos State.

NDLEA recorded the breakthrough when its operatives raided some drug spots in Agege, Ikorodu, Lekki, Okokomaiko and other parts of the state; destroyed major drug syndicates, arrested suspects and seized large quantities of hard drugs.

According to NDLEA, “One of the drug syndicates burst during the raids is coordinated by one Samuel Ebenezer in Lekki.

“His cartel imports special sophisticated drugs baked in cakes, biscuits and cookies from the United States and sells to the rich and affluent people in Lekki and Lagos Island.”

During the raids, 90 suspects including an Indian were arrested, while over 614 kg of various types of drugs were seized.

While parading the suspects the Lagos State Commander of the Agency, Mr. Ralph Igwenagu, explained that “The breakdown of the seizures is as follows:

“Cannabis Sativa 577.020 kg; Cocaine 0.183kg, Heroine 0.003 kg, Tramadol 36.202kg (7,697) tablets, Rohypnol 0.208kg (646) tablets, Diazapam 0.462kg (2066) tablets, Exol-5 0.52kg (316) tablets, making a total of 614.396kg of different types of hard drugs seized.” The haul included a container-load of tramadol the agency intercepted at the Apapa seaport.

At least 300 schoolgirls at Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in the Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandit.

A staff of the school, who begged for anonymity, said the bandits arrived in the school around 1am on Friday with Hilux vehicles and motorcycles and forcefully evacuated the students.

He narrated that some of the bandits were in uniforms and pretended to be security personnel, then later broke into the students hostels and abducted more than 300 students.

“When they came into the school, we thought they were security personnel but to our utmost fear and dismay, they started putting the girls into Hilux vehicles and motorcycles then drove out of the school,” the source said, adding that the bandits were in the school for several hours without any challenge due to absence of the security agents.

A parent of one of the girls, who gave his name as Malam Lawal Jangebe, said, “I nearly fainted when I heard about the abduction of the students including my daughter.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Shehu confirmed the development.

“We are right now on our way going to the school where the incident happened.”
