2023: Sen Smart Adeyemi Slams Abia State Governor Over Attack On Kogi Governor

Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Smart Adeyemi has described Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu as a “drunkard”.

Senator Smart Adeyemi, Kogi West
This description was made by the Kogi senator while contributing to a motion on Safe School Initiative in Nigeria.
Senator Adeyemi alleged that Abia state is governed by a “champagne drinking man”, some Governors are working hard to make the lives of residents of their state better.
Adeyemi seemingly said this in response to a social media post allegedly linked to Abia-born Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, which cast aspersion on Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state.
He said;
“Despite that some governors are doing their best, we are lucky to have a governor who has taken the issue of security as a serious priority.
“We are bordered by nine states, but we had an experience of the unfortunate incidents that are happening in neighbouring states.
“Some governors are committed to the protection of their people. In my state, the governor awarded contracts for the renovations of schools and provides security services to them.
“In some states where we have highly intelligent people, highly educated people, very enterprising people, like Abia, they are governed by drunkards. The governor of Abia is a champagne drinking man.
“Abia people are impoverished more than ever before. Abia people are unfortunate.”
However after Senate President Ahmad Lawan cautioned Adeyemi against insulting the governor, Abaribe expressed shock over the Kogi-born senator’s comment and urged him to tender an apology to Governor Ikpeazu. He also denied making any comment about Governor Yahaya Bello.
Abaribe said;
“Mr President, I will like to make a clarification. Unfortunately, what has happened here today is one of the problems that you see on social media. I never made any comment on the governor of Kogi State. Never!
“What has happened is what we see going on today. People write something and tag your name to it. And if you don’t ask question, you will not know whether you actually said it or not.
“And I see so many things tagged to me but I don’t talk. The last time I saw Nuhu Ribadu, I also spoke to him. Something was ascribed to him that was very deleterious.

“I’m very surprised that my good friend and colleague decided to take on the governor of Abia for something I never said.”

Supreme Court dismisses appeals by Oshiomhole

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeals filed by a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, and the ex-caretaker committee chairman of the party in Rivers State, Igo Aguma over Mr. Aguma’s sack.
In a unanimous judgment, a five-man panel of the apex court upheld the December 29, 2020 judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which set aside an earlier judgment of the high court of rivers state.
In the lead judgment prepared by Justice Adamu Jaoru, but read on by justice Amina Augie, the court held that the appeal was without merit because it was plagued with a litany of jurisdictional issues.
The Supreme Court said the judgment in the appeal by Mr. Aguma should be applied to the one filed by Mr. Oshiomhole, in which the former APC national chairman, among others, queried the jurisdiction of the Appeal Court in Abuja to have heard the case.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, in its December 29, 2020 judgment had set aside the June 2020 judgment of Justice George Omereji of the High Court of Rivers State in Port Harcourt and sacked Mr. Aguma as acting/caretaker committee chairman of APC in Rivers State.
The appeal court equally affirmed the appointment of Isaac Abbot Ogbobula as the caretaker committee chairman of the Rivers State APC.
It held that it is the exclusive right of the national working committee of the All Progressives Congress under the party’s constitution to appoint a caretaker committee for any organ of the party.
In reaction to the judgement, the sacked chairman, Hon Igo Aguma has dumped the All Progressives Congress.
