It wasn’t one of Thomas Tuchel’s best performances as manager, but they extended their undefeated run to 14 games and advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals.

OFFICIAL: Chelsea Has Signed Leicester Defender Ben Chilwell

Following a slow start to the cup tie, the Blues took the lead in the 24th minute thanks to an own goal by Oliver Norwood. After coming off the bench, Hakim Ziyech sealed the victory for the hosts in stoppage time.

Chelsea took the lead in the 24th minute, despite a slow start. Oliver Norwood drove Ben Chilwell’s goal-bound effort into his own net, leaving Aaron Ramsdale with no chance. Tuchel’s team took the lead without even making a shot on goal.

The game began as it had begun, but the picture quality was poor. The visitors planned to target Christian Pulisic, who was fouled frequently, but they avoided making any bookings. However, three minutes before halftime, the American should have doubled the lead. He took advantage of a defensive blunder by Ramsdale and Norwood, but the Blades goalkeeper saved his chipped effort from close range.

Sheffield United’s David McGoldrick had a long-range effort that forced Kepa into action in first-half stoppage time, but it was easily saved.

Pulisic showed excellent footwork to get into the box two minutes into the second half, but his initial effort was saved before he shot the rebound over Ramsdale’s crossbar.

In the 63rd minute, Tuchel made a double substitution, replacing Olivier Giroud and Andreas Christensen with Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta.

In the 67th minute, McGoldrick had his head in his hands after missing an absolute sitter. He was picked out in the middle of the box by John Lundstram, but he headed his unmarked header wide from yards out. A contender for the season’s worst miss.

Two minutes later, Oli McBurnie was the next to have a chance, but Kepa saved his effort.

With 18 minutes remaining, Tuchel decided to make two more substitutions, bringing on Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech for Billy Gilmour and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

McGoldrick was allowed to get past Azpilicueta on the byline in the 77th minute, forcing Kepa to tip the goal-bound cross-shot away.

In stoppage time, Rhian Brewster’s shot was deflected wide of the post as the visitors looked for a late equaliser. The Blues had a heart-in-mouth moment, but the risk was averted.

After a late counter-attack from the hosts, substitute Ziyech finished the game late in stoppage time by finding the bottom corner.
