Emir of Kano Urges Gov Bello To Sustain The Onslaught Against Criminal Elements In Kogi

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been commended by the Emir of Kano, Dr Aminu Ado Bayero over his watertight strategies against insecurity in the state.

The Emir of Kano speaking while hosting the young governor urged him to sustain the onslaught against criminal elements in his state.

The Royal Father emphasized that no society develops in the absence of peace, as peace is the foundation of every societal growth, adding when one segment of the society is in turmoil, all others are ultimately opened to inherent dangers and resultant effects.

He urged everyone to be fully involved in the fight against insecurity.

The governor who met with the Emir in Abuja on Sunday appreciated him for recognizing his effort in the fight against insecurity and also acknowledging the development strides the state has recorded under his administration.

Bello disclosed that before he assumed office, the Confluence state was hitherto the kidnap capital of Nigeria where dreaded kidnappers and other criminal elements reigned with impunity. His administration, he stated, has, however, changed the situation as kogi state is now a safe haven for citizens and prospective investors within and outside Nigeria.

He thanked the Royal Father for his continued support for leaders in authority while urging him to continue to leave his door open for young leaders and followers who come to tap from his wisdom.

Tension, fear and apprehension has gripped the people of Kogi state following resurgence of kidnappings and other criminal activities.

Reports from the central senatorial district indicated that a first class traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammed Adembe, the Adogu of Eganyi, in Ajaokuta local government area of the state, has been kidnapped on Tuesday in a broad day light by some unknown gunmen.

Also a prominent Pharmacist in Okene was on Monday hounded away by yet to be identified suspected kidnappers said to be dressed like security operatives, while in Kabba town another Pharmacist was abducted and taken away to an unknown destination.

It was also reported on Wednesday that a Pastor of the ECWA church Tawari in Kogi local government area of the state alongside his wife have been allegedly kidnapped by yet to be identified suspected kidnappers.

Prior to the recent upsurge of kidnappings, there have been pockets of criminal activities including abductions and robberies across the state, forcing many residents to relocate to other areas.

Investigation revealed that the invaders are those bandits displaced from the north east and northwest where they have been over powered by the security forces.

It was based on the resurgence of kidnappings and other criminal activities that Governor Yahaya Bello, earlier this week, called on the Federal government to establish a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base in the State.

Governor Bello made the call on Monday when he paid a courtesy visit on the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao at NFA Headquarters, Abuja.

He stressed that the establishment of an air force base in the state would check the activities of bandits as well as facilitate intelligence gathering against criminal elements who have established safe haven in some parts of the state.

Insecurity: Kebbi Deputy Governor Reacts To Danko/Wasagu Killings, Says It Is Time To Restructure Vigilante Groups To Complement Security Efforts.

Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Dr Sama’ila Yombe Dabai has reacted to the killings as a result of banditry attacks that claimed the lives of about 100 people in Chediya, Gaya, D’pindu, Rafin Gora among other villages of Danko Wasagu local government area of the state.

The Deputy Governor who was reacting to the incidence through the telephone conversation , added that it is time to restructure local vigilante group to complement security efforts and the process had begun having received a profiling report to be digested.

The Deputy Governor in a statement issue by his Senior Special Assistant on new Media, Tom Turba noted contrary to reports that Yansakai were banned, he cautioned that no order banning Yansakai but on no account should government watch them becoming law enforcement agents in town to the extent of taking over cases of land, rape, debt, royalty etc against the principle (banditry attacks) for which they naturally emerged.

Responding to blockage of governor’s convoy in Ribah, Sama’ila Yombe Dabai described the act as disgraceful and uncalled for, therefore such acts must not repeat itself considering how the governor amid engagements had been in touch with the victims of banditry attacks. He added that there are various ways of expressing anger on leaders in a manner that no one will fault such actions. He maintained that attitude of Zuru people is known for respect and not contrary.

“Strategy to address the menace must change while noting security challenges as a national phenomenon”, the Deputy Governor further revealed.

INEC OFFICE IN NJABA LGA OF IMO STATE SET ABLAZE

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu, has reported that the office Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State was set ablaze on Sunday 30th May 2021.

According to Prof. Ezeonu, no life was lost, but the building was substantially burnt down, along with electoral materials, office equipment and furnitures.

The latest incident which has been reported to the Police for investigation, came exactly a week after INEC Office in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of the State was vandalized on Sunday 23rd May 2021.

It is also the 8th INEC Office to be attacked in Imo State since the 2019 General Election.

The total number of INEC Offices attacked nationwide since 2019 has now risen to 42.

INEC buildings, infrastructure and equipment are critical national assets that guarantee the continuity of electoral activities throughout the federation.

Attacking these offices is not in the national interest and has the capacity of compromising electoral activities and the credibility of the democratic process.
