Nasarawa Assembly Begin Investigation Into IMAP, Lafia Protest As ASUP Calls For Punitive Measures Against Perpetrators

Nasarawa state House of Assembly on Tuesday, began investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the students’ protest at the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic ( IMAP) Lafia on March 11th, 2021.

Chairman, House Commitee on Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Daniel Oga Ogazi, made this known when officials of  Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ( ASUP), management staff and NASU  appeared before the first sitting of the committee taking place at the polytechnic in Lafia today.

Oga Ogazi( APC- Kokona East)  said that the committee decided to invite them in order to get first hand information that will assist the committee in carrying out its investigation.

” Mr Speaker, Rt.Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has mandated us to investigate the matter as we are going to report back the outcome of our investigation to the House.

” We want to get first hand information from you which will help the committee to do a thorough job.

” We want to assure that any person or group of persons  found wanting at the end of the day no matter how high place they are, they will be dealt with decisively.

” By God’s grace, our resolution will be implemented by the governor to serve as deterrent to others and for the overall development of the education sector.

Oga Ogazi described the students unrest which led to the destruction of properties in the institution as unfortunate and uncalled for.

He urged the ASUP to continue to be up and doing in ensuring the development of the institution.

The chairman called for team work among staff of the institution by supporting the new management to succeed.

Mr Slyvester Aku, the ASUP Chairman while presenting the position of the body to the committee called for punitive measures against perpetrators in order to serve as deterrent  to others.

” The allegation that the management has closed school fees portal and increased school fees were false, this is not true as registration was going on when we heard and seen students protesting, ” he said.

Aku also commended  Gov Abdullahi Sule for appointing the management team of the institution, who are members of the institution.

” This is for the first time that we have substantive rector from the institution, we thank the governor for appointing the management team within the institution, ” he said.

Also  appeared before the committee was the management of the Polytechnic led by the Rector,  Dr Justina Kotso.
Kotso while presenting the management’s report before the committee dismissed allegations that the school management closed school fees portal and increased school fees.

” We did not closed the school fees portal and increased school fees,” she said.

She has told the committee that the management has deployed new portal for students school fees registration in order to block linkages.

” When I came on board, the management met analogue method of school fees payment and we sat down to deployed a new portal for school fees registration in order to block linkages,” she said.

The rector said  that some Alumni officials were threatening the management of the institution as well as inciting  the public against the management of the institution.

” They have being telling me that I have block linkages/ stopped them from getting money.

” Some of the Alumni officials have also being threatening us and are inciting the public against the management of the institution through their write up (posting)  in the social media.

” We will submit the report to you for your action,” she said.

She has assured of the management’s cooperation in order to ensure the success  of the investigation and for the overall development of the education sector in the state.

Also appeared before the committee is the officials of the Non Academic Staff Union ( NASU) of the institution led by its Chairman,  Mr Danlami Yaro who told the committee that he saw students protesting while condemning the act in its totality.

He said that the union is happy with the new management and its new policy( portal)  of students  school fees payment.

It would be reported that on March 11, 2021 students of the institution violently protested over alleged closure of school fees portal and increment  in school fees by the school management leading to destruction of properties.

Eid-El-Fitr: Deputy Governor of Kebbi Task On Peaceful Coexistence.

In his message to commemorate the 2021 Eid-El-Fitr, His Excellency, Dr Sama’ila Yombe Dabai mni (Tambarin Zuru), the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State has charged Muslim faithfuls around the globe on peaceful co-existence and implore the virtues of Holy Month of Ramadan and beyond.

While fielding questions from journalists after Eid El Fitr prayers on Thursday, Dr. Samaila Yombe Dabai used the medium to commend the efforts and leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Bagudu of Kebbi state respectively.

The Deputy Governor further extended warm appreciations to Royal fathers of Kebbi State for their regular support to the policies and programs of the State Government.

On insecurity situation in the State with emphasis on Kebbi South, Sama’ila Yombe Dabai stressed that Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu will not relent on the efforts of the State Government toward sustaining the peace while using the medium to call on bad elements launching attacks on the innocent citizens to either stop or face full wrath of the law.

The Deputy Governor prayed for the repose of all departed souls while renewing his call to see the prime purpose of life here on Earth and hereafter.

Dr Isah Salifu bags traditional title in hometown as Omachi Ejeh Dekina, (Wali).

Recognition will always come to the diligent and the selfless. Sometimes, it comes from outside one’s community or from within, as is the case with Dr Isah Salifu.

Dr Salifu, ECOBANK zonal manager, was yesterday  conferred with the traditional title of Omachi Ejeh of Dekina. To some, it may just be a title. But to the Igalas, it holds a lot of importance.  Its meaning is Gifted Child. The title was conferred by no other than the Ejeh of Dekina and acting Chairman, Igala Area Traditional Council Dr Usman Obaje.

Afenifere 4 GYB/PYB 2023: Kogi State Chapter Describes Gov. Bello as Best Choice for the Country

A Group known as Afenifere for GYB/PYB 2023, Kogi State Chapter, says Governor Yahaya Bello remains the right choice to lead Nigeria come 2023.

The State Coordinator of the Group, Mr. Chinga Emmanuel made the remark during a meeting of the Group in Lokoja, the State Capital.

Mr. Chinga pointed out that since Governor Yahaya Bello assumed Office, alot of transformation has taken place in the State, ranging from rural electrification, road construction, appointment of youths into positions, among others.

The State Coordinator noted that Nigeria today, is yearning for change of leadership, stressing that Governor Bello represents the youthful mind the Country needs, assuring that if elected as President in the coming Presidential election, a lot of positive changes will be witnessed in Nigeria.

Mr. Chinga expressed optimism that the issue of insecurity facing Nigeria will become a thing of the past with Governor Bello leading the Country, assuring that the Group will not relent efforts at promoting the activities of the Governor to the the outer world and ensure his success at the Presidential polls.

He explained that few weeks after the inauguration of executives of Kogi State of the Group, over 3,000 members have been added to the Group, calling on all Kogites within and outside the State to join the movement.

Mr. Emmanuel stressed that the Group will continue to mobilize youths across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State to join the project, adding that Governor Yahaya Bello’s believe in the youths’ ability to deliver is second to none.
