Nasarawa Assembly confirms former works commissioner as MD/ CEO, NUDB.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has confirmed the appointment of Engr. Mohammed Wada Yahaya, the former Commissioner for Works as Managing Direrctor/ Chief Executive Officer  ( CEO) of Nasarawa Urban Development  Board ( NUDB).

Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House announced this during the House proceedings in Lafia today.

Balarabe Abdullahi said that the screening and confirmation of Engr.Wada Yahaya followed his appointment by Gov Abdullahi Sule.

”  Engr. Mohammed Wada Yahaya has served the state as Commissioner for Works and Adviser.

” To the best of my knowledge, he has not erred while discharging his duties. He has served the state diligently.

“Engr. Mohammed Wada Yahaya is hereby confirmed as the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the NUDB”, he said.

The speaker congratulated Engr Wada Yahaya and wished him well.

He has directed  the clerk to the House to communicate the House resolution to Gov. Abdullahi Sule for necessary action.

Earlier, Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House, moved a motion for the screening and confirmation of Engr Wada Yahaya as Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of NUDB.

Hon Luka Zhekaba,( PDP- Obi 2)  the Deputy Minority  Leader seconded the motion.

The House unanimously screened and confirmed Engr. Wada Yahaya as the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of NUDB.

Nasarawa Assembly Pledge to give Gov. Sule legal backing on transparency,  accountability.

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has moved to give Gov. Abdullahi Sule legal backing in order to enhance transparency, accountability and probity for good governance in the state.

To this end, the House has deliberated on three different executive bills to that effect and slated Monday, June 28th, 2021 for the third reading of the bills.

The reports are, Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation/ Public Account on a bill for a Law to Enact the Nasarawa State Public Audit Law 2021 and for Other Matters Connected Therewith presented  by Hon Abdullahi Angibi, the Co- Chairman of the committee.

The second report is, the Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation/ Public Account on A  Bill for a Law to Provide for the Establishment of Office of the Auditor General for Local Governments and Other Matters Incidental Thereto presented by Hon Mohammed Okpoku, the Acting Chairman of the committee.

The third report is, the Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation/ Public Account on A Bill for a Law for the Establishment of the Nasarawa State Debt Management Office and for Other Matters Connected Therewith presented by Hon .Mohammed Okpoku, the Acting Chairman of the committee.

For the Nasarawa State Public Audit Law 2021, the  committee recommends that the Audit Service Board shall be the designated body to recommend to the Executive Governor the person to be appointed as Auditor General of the State.

” The committee recommends renewable tenure for Auditor General. When he completes a term of four years,  renewable once for another four years , if appointed on the service, provided is not more than the age of 60 years.

” Upon vacation of office, the retiring Auditor General shall be entitled to pension as a rate equivalent to the Annual Salary of the incumbent Auditor General.

” The Committee recommended 0.2 % of all payment on project executed  by the State Government for project auditing.

” The Committee further recommends 2% as professional fees to External Auditors.

” The Board shall comprises of a chairman and six other members which shall be appointed two from each of the senatorial zone.

” The Auditor General shall be the Chairman of the  Board and an officer not below the rank of director shall serve as the Secretary, ” he said.

The House also recommended that a person with cognate experience of not less than 15 years in Account and Auditing practice with either B.Sc or HND as the case may be , be appointed as the chairman of the Board of age limit not above 60 years.

The House also deliberated on report of the Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation/ Public Account on A  Bill for a Law to Provide for the Establishment of the Office of the Auditor General for Local Governments and Other Matters Incidental Thereto.

Hon Mohammed Okpoku, the Acting Chairman of the committee said that the committee recommended that every Local Government Council shall submit its approved budget before the end of first quarter of the year.

” Render an annual financial statement to the Office of the Auditor General before the end of last quarter of the financial year.

” The Auditor General shall be entitled to provision for life at a rate equivalent to the annual salary of the incumbent Auditor General,” he said.

Furthermore, the House also deliberated on report of the Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation/ Public Account on A Bill for a Law for the Establishment of the Nasarawa State Debt Management Office and for Other Matters Connected Therewith which was presented by Hon .Mohammed Okpoku, the Acting Chairman of the committee.

The committee recommended that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government should be a member of the Debt Management Committee representing the Local Government Council.

The speaker slated Monday, June 28th, 2021 for the third reading of all the three bills after the House deliberated on the reports.

Earlier, Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for adoption of the reports of the three bills after deliberation by the House.

Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Deputy Minority Leader of the House seconded the motions.

“The Zonal Technical Workshop Was Timely And Profitable” – Hajia Hassisat

 

The recently concluded Two Days Zonal Technical Workshop on Medium Term National Development Plan 2021/2025, have been described as a good step in the Right Direction.

The Chairman, Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO) Federal, Hajia Hassisat Ozavize Suleiman, stated this while speaking with Newsmen at the end of the event which was organized by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning at the Glass House, Lokoja.

She said the Confluence State was blessed to have been picked for the all important Workshop, stressing that a lot have been achieved already through various delibrations in the course of the event.

Hajia Ozavize Suleiman, who is also the Executive Chairman, Kogi State Mineral Resources Development Agency, noted that there was need for adequate attention to be accorded to the Solid Minerals and Agricultural sector, following the need for diversification of the Country’s economy, while calling on the Federal Government to allow States exercise a level of control over the Solid Minerals sector.

She also commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, for his doggedness and unwavering commitment at giving the solid Minerals and natural Resources sector in the State a facelift, and promised to continue to live up to expectations in the two offices she occupies.

Scholar Raises Concern Over Igbo Exclusive Residential Community In

A Kano based scholar, Dr. Abdallah Gadon Kaya have raised concern over highbrow residential areas occupied exclusively by Igbos in Kano State noting that such allowance creates a vacuum for disunity.

In a video obtained by Arewa Agenda, the scholar who noted that the community located in Zungeru Road, behind Kano Airport said, “they have their massive gates, security and other facilities that prevent other people, especially indigenes from accessing. Government should not allow such to be happening when we can’t go to Onitsha, Aba or Enugu an create an exclusive place for Northerners or Muslims like that.”

Dr. Abdallah, known for his clear stance on topical issues, called on the state Government to promote policies that will harmonize the Hausas and Igbos in the area and bring about peaceful coexistence.

“We should not have such exclusive places, government should ensure there are mosques there and Kano indigenes should be given access to build houses too in such highbrow area,” Gadon Kaya insisted.

Arewa Agenda learnt that many people are heeding the call.

Speaking on the matter, a Political Commentator and Secretary Arewa Youths Council (AYC), Bello Shehu States that, “It dangerous, especially when some ethnic groups are clamouring for separation from the rest of the country to now allow one tribe to exclusively occupy an highbrow. Even though Arewa people are denied such privileges of owning business premises and estates in Igboland, we need to mix up to promote national unity, tolerance and brotherhood. That way, we can appreciate each other more and live peacefully together.”
