3 Killed Over Stolen Mobile Phone In Lokoja.

There was pandemonium on Monday in Felele, Lokoja, Kogi state capital as 3 persons were reported killed over stolen mobile phone.
An eye witness revealed that a thief who snatched a mobile phone stabbed his victim to death and while escaping sneaked into a shop where the innocent shop owner was mistaken for the thief and subsequently killed by a mob, while the suspect escaped.
In a reprisal, sympathisers of the late shop owner, identified one of his alleged killers, beat him to death and set the corpse ablaze, while some persons have been taken to the hospital following injuries they sustained during the clashes.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kogi state, DSP William Aya, who confirmed the incident, said the command received a distress call from Felele at about 10 am on Monday, and on arrival at the scene discovered two dead bodies said to have been killed in a clash.
The PPRO explained that one Salisu Ado and Muhammad Mukaila all dead were alleged to have engaged in a fight over yet to be ascertained cause leading to their death.
He however stated that Muhammed Mukaila was alleged to have stabbed Salisu Ado to death, prompting a reprisal attack by his relations and sympathisers who equally killed Mukaila and set his corpse ablaze.
According to DSP Aya, two suspects Muhammed Mubarak and Suleiman Yakubu all believed to be members of Aro Barger cult have been arrested in connection to the killings.
Investigation into the matter has commenced as the state Commissioner of Police ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department .
Fraud: Nasarawa Assembly Suspends Deputy Minority Leader Over Fake Teacher’s Employment in The State
” As Speaker set up 3- Man Ad-hoc committee to investigate him, directs 2 civil servants to go on compulsory retirements.”
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has suspended its Deputy Minority Leader, Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba ( PDP- Obi 2) for his alleged involvement into the fake employment of 38 secondary school teachers in the state.
Rt.Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House announced this after the House deliberated on the report of the House Committee on Education on the recruitment of 366 teachers and 38 Fake teachers in the pay roll of the State Civil Service during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
The speaker has set up three man Ad-hoc committee to investigate the suspended member and to report back to the House within two weeks.
” The committee recommended that Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba, Deputy Minority Leader of the House should be suspended and Ad-hoc committee be set up to investigate his alleged involvement in the fake employment of the teachers.
” I hereby set up three man Ad- hoc committee to investigate his alleged involvement and report back to the House within two weeks.
” Hon Suleiman Yakubu Azara, member representing Awe South constituency is the Chairman of the committee, Hon Usman Labaran Shafa, member representing Toto/ Gadabuke constituency and Hon Samuel Tsebe, member representing Akwanga South as members of the committee.
” While Mr Ibrahim Musa, the Deputy Clerk of the House is the Secretary of the committee,” he said.
“I can’t question his activities or involvement for now until the committee concludes its findings,as you commence your investigation,I wish you success”, the Speaker said.
Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi said that the House was not against the employment of the teachers but due process must be follow for equity and fairness and recruitment of teachers should be a periodic exercise.
” Mr Anthony Ladan, a Senior Accountant, Bureau for Salaries who admitted of including the names of 38 teachers into the pay roll of the state government without the directive from the Commissioner of Finance and Mr Michael Adonye Johnny, a staff of the ministry of Education, who is a syndicate are to proceed on compulsory retirements.
” Mr John Nuhu, a former staff of the Teachers Service Commission ( TSC) and Ministry of Information, a syndicate of the fake employment is to be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution,” he said.
The House agreed that the Director of the Bureau for salaries, Mr Sulley Daheer and other staff of the Bureau be redeployed to other departments of the state Ministry of Finance.
” A person with ICT knowledge with proven integrity to be deployed to the Bureau for Salaries to take over the salaries of civil servants in the state,” he added.
The speaker urged the management of the state Teachers Service Commission ( TSC) to sit up to its statutory responsibilities in the interest of the education sector.
He also called on the state government to conduct independent investigation into the activities of MDAs to sanitize the system .
Earlier, Hon Daniel Ogazi, the Chairman of the Committee while presenting the report of the committee said that the committee found out that the syndicates collected between N50,000 and N100,000 to issue fake appointment letters to the applicants.
He told the House that the committee has invited the managements of the ministry of Education, Finance, Accountant General, the syndicates, one of the victims, Caroline Barde among others before the committee.
Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the adoption of the report which was seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba.
The House unanimously adopted the report.
It would be reported that on Aug.16, 2021 that John Nuhu and Michael Adonye Johnny, the syndicates when they appeared before the committee have admitted of forging the documents of the state Ministry of Education.
It would also be reported that on Aug. 16, 2021 Mr Anthony Ladan, a senior Accountant in the Salaries Bureau, admitted including the names of 38 teachers into the pay roll of the state government without the directive from the Commissioner of Finance and Director, Salaries.
Kogi: 7 Soldiers Feared Killed, Others Injured As Gunmen Invade Kabba Prison, 240 Inmates Escape.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Kabba Correctional Centre in Kogi state, killing no fewer than seven soldiers, leading to jail break with all 240 inmates escaping.
Sources said about 7 of the soldiers mounting road block along Lokoja – Kabba road some few meters away from the Kabba Correctional centre are said to have been killed with several others injured when the gunmen were on their way to the facility in the early hours of Monday.
An eye witness account said the gunmen also sprayed bullets on an uncompleted building where the soldiers normally hibernate before breaking into the Correctional centre and released the 240 inmates
The account said some of the Correctional Officers on guard were fatally injured while one of the soldiers who made attempt to flee was also hit in the leg.
It was also reported that three of the escaping prisoners were rearrested at about 8.00 am on Monday beside Kudon hotel, Kabba while attempting to board an Ilorin bound vehicle.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 8, Lokoja, AIG Ayuba Edeh, who confirmed the incidence, said the State Commissioner of Police and other heads of security agencies have swung into action to do an assessment of the cause of the jail break.
The state Comptroller of the Correctional Service, who visited the Kabba prison, disclosed that all the 240 inmates escaped following the attack and has assured that they will all be arrested.
He explained that the Kabba Correctional Centre which has a capacity for 200 inmates harbours 240, 70 of whom are serving their sentences, while the remaining 140 are stills awaiting trials.
Gov Bello Provides Engine Propel Boats To Fight Crimes On Kogi State Waterways.

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in his determination and resolve to fight criminals, either on land or water, has on Friday donated engine propel boats to the six riverine Local Government Areas of the State.
Commissioner for Sold Minerals and Natural Resources, Engineer Bashir Abubakar Gegu, who distributed the the boats on behalf of the governor, said the procurement of the boats became imperative as the criminals continue evolve means of escape after perpetrating crimes.
He disclosed that the boats will in no small measure assist and enable security outfits, especially the state vigilante men to fight perpetrators of crime on the waterways.
Six riverine Local Government Areas of Ajaokuta, Bassa, Ibaji, Idah, Kogi (Kotonkarfe), and Lokoja, benefited from the governor’s gesture.
Hon. Gegu reiterated the commitment of the administration to fight criminals operating on the state water and highways, pointing out that many kidnappers and armed robbers have resorted to using the waterways as escape routes after perpetrating crime, hence the decision to assist security agents in curbing their excesses.
The current administration, he said, would not rest on its oars until criminals are rooted out of the state, stressing that the commitment to providing suitable environment for investments to thrive is strong and alive
According to Commissioner, the speed boats were specially constructed for the purpose intended, adding that the intention is to bequeath a safe, secured, thriving state to the future.
He noted that the socioeconomic benefits of the gesture is also one that the LGAs would enjoy in the long run as it also capable of helping to evacuate victims of water related mishaps, if such unfortunate development occurs.
If well utilised, the Governor recalled that the boats were capable of contributing to the economy of the councils, especially as it concerns rural transportation in the form of conveying goods across Rivers Niger and Benue – from one Community to the other.
He therefore enjoined the communities to take advantage by ensuring adequate care for the boats, stressing that it is the only way he would be encouraged to do more for the state.
Receiving the the boats on behalf of their LGAs, representatives of the councils expressed gratitude to the Governor for the gesture and promised to use them judiciously for the benefit of their people and the glory of Kogi State.
