Lokoja Day Celebration: Gov Bello Congratulates Maigari, Lokoja People At 161 Years.

Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has congratulated the people of Lokoja, the state capital, on the celebration of its 161 years of its founding in 1860 AD.

The Governor who was represented at this year’s annual “Lokoja day” celebration over the weekend by the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engineer Mohammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, expressed delight on the peaceful and accommodating disposition of the residents of the foremost ancient colonial settlement.

He specifically congratulated the traditional ruler, the Maigari of Lokoja, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi 111 over the spate of developments that has made the ancient town to be one of the fastest developing in the world.

The governor noted that it was during his era that the state was created and Lokoja the seat of his domain was made the capital which elicited accelerated human and infrastructural development, due largely to mutual and peaceful co existence, understanding and tolerance exhibited by his subjects and visitors alike.

While urging the residents of Lokoja to sustain their loyalty to the Maigari of Lokoja, the Governor equally reminded them of the responsibility of being receptive to all visitors who are in the state either as Federal, state governments staff or businessmen and women contributing to the socioeconomic development of the state.

He used the occasion to also congratulate the people of the state over the inclusion of Kogi as an oil producing state in addition to the availability of numerous solid minerals across the state which has now singled it out as the nation’s investment capital.

The Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi 111, who thanked the Governor for his recognition of the peaceful and accommodating roles of his subjects, prayed for the unity and progress of Kogi state and Nigeria.

The Monarch expressed his profound appreciation to Governor Yahaya Bello especially on his capability in uniting the people and dissuading criminals in the state, urging all the people of the state and indeed all Nigerians to cooperatives with the present administration to sustain the struggle for a meritable change in our already decadent social order.

It is on record that Lokoja served as the base of the Christian Missionaries, European traders, and the British colonial administration, who were said to have also named the country Nigeria, coined from “Niger area” after the great river Niger, by Lord Fedrick Lugard who amalgamated the Northern and Southern protectorates in 1914.

Relics of British colonial structures,
business companies and Churches, schools and cemeteries where dead Europeans were hurried abound in Lokoja, now Kogi state capital.

As part of activities marking this year’s celebration, two preeminent sons of Lokoja were turbaned as traditional tittle holders for their immense contributions to the development of the town, among whom is Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sanusi an Assistant Commissioner of Police, as the the Chigari ( Conqueror) of Lokoja, while Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Gambo, a retired Airforce Mater Warrant Officer was turbaned as the Lafarma of Lokoja.

Mahmud Gaya disclosed this in a congratulatory visit to the new emir at his residence Sunday

Hon Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya further said as Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir basks in the glory of the moment, he should remain peoples’ emir and leader to all and treat all subjects fairly in the course of discharging his duties, adding that this should be his first step to unite all members of the ruling house for the interest of emirate people.

Hon Abdullahi Mahmud Allah, and remain a Emir to all and prayed to Allah the Almighty to provide the new Emir with wisdom and guidance in the discharge of this responsibility.

President Muhammad Buhari recent visit to the Imo State has be commended owing to the fact that the Governor of the State, Mr. Hope Uzodimma has performed beyond expectations of electorates. 

The Deputy Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu,  has weighed in on the presidential visit led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Iwuanyanwu, who is the youngest Deputy Speaker in the country, says the benefits of the presidential visit will be immense and beneficial for Imo

The Deputy Speaker declared that the recent visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the state will be of immense benefit to Imolites.

Iwuanyanwu, who represent Nwangele state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, made the assertion during an exclusive interview.

He said the presidential visit was an opportunity for President Buhari to see the work done so far by Governor Hope Uzodimma and his team in Imo state.

He noted that the visit will also enable the president to know what sectors he can render help to Imo and its residents henceforth.

According to the lawmaker, “There are some federal roads that the governor has embarked on that are actually state roads, but because of the viability of those roads. He has embarked on them with meager funds. “So, if the president goes back with what he has seen on ground, he can decide that the federal government should assist the State in order to do more.”

He said because of the good work of Gov Hope Uzodimma led administration is doing in Imo state, corruption is fighting back from all angles. He said “This presidential visit is epochal in different dimensions.

Firstly, this is the first time in the last 12 years that we will be hosting the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, solely for the purpose of work rather than election or any other social or extra administrative reasons. “This is to say that for the first time in 12 years, the Nigerians seat of power is fully relocating to Imo state, albeit, for just a day.

The far-reaching significance of this cannot be overemphasized.” Buhari is impressed with projects in Imo.

Recall that President Buhari on Thursday, September 9, expressed satisfaction at the extent of work done so far in Imo state under Governor Uzodimma. The president said that he is impressed at the kind of infrastructural development and the level of security in the state.

He noted that the two areas in which the governor has performed well align with his Next Level vision for Nigeria.

Buhari while commending  Uzodimma to continue with good work, expressed satisfaction with the transformation taken place in the State.

President Buhari had earlier declared that he has seen enough to account for the good deeds of Governor Uzodimma.

Buhari made the statement during his visit to Imo where he commissioned projects carried out by the Uzodimma-led government. He added that he is fascinated by the Imo state leader’s giant strides even in the face of unforeseen circumstances.

Bello Swears In Justice Olorunfemi As CJ Of Kogi State, With A Charge To Dispense Justice Without Fear Or Favour

Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has sworn in Hon. Justice Richard.O. Olorunfemi, as the fifth Chief Judge alongside Justice Siaka Momoh Jimoh Usman as the President Customary court of Appeal with a charge on them to execute all functions of the Judiciary without fear or favour.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja, also urged the confirmed Chief Judge and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal to ensure the dispensation of justice in accordance with the constitution, the law, and the Kogi state administration of justice law.

Recall that Kogi State has within the last fourteen months sworn in three Chief Judges after the demise of Justice Nasiru Ajanah.

Chief Onoja said the Judiciary is a core arm of government that complement others for in the fulfilment of checks and balance in governance, absence of which the much touted democracy will not flourish.

The Deputy Governor explained that as a democratic set up, Kogi state government will continue to accord respect for the judiciary and necessary support to enable it perform maximally in the interest of the people.

He also disclosed that the appointment of the Chief Judge and the President Customary Court of Appeal were done in accordance with the laid down rules as they passed they passed through the ladder of service and wealth of experience.
