An Abia gubernatorial aspirant, Prince Onuoha Uko Igwe, on Wednesday, re-echoed call on the citizenry to work assiduously towards enthrone responsive and visionary leaderships at all levels of governance in the state come 2023 general election.
This comes on the heels of the alleged deficits in economic and Infrastructural developments of the state since inception of the current democratic government in Nigeria in 1999.
But, Uko Igwe, while addressing newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, against the backdrops, maintained that Abia lacked the moral compass, and is heavily faced and soaked in developmental backwardness and decadence in Infrastructure and economy.
He regretted that Abia is now seen as the worst disenfranchised state in the Nigeria federation, and frowned on the alleged rising corrupt practices and looting spree by government officials, which he described as very alarming, while expressing total dismay that those entrusted with mandates of the people have failed to address critical demands of large population of the Abia citizens and residents who are desirous of a true democratic governance in the state.
Igwe insisted that successive administrations in Abia has equally failed to create enabling environment for job opportunities and youths, men and women development to thrive, regretting also that common wealths of the state are being looted and lined up in private pockets and described the ugly trend as very alarming.
“We can be a progressive state, True, the life of the average Abian has not been anything to write home about in the last 25 years and a new direction is our goal. The status quo cannot be allowed anymore. We must all agree to let the old cargos running Abia state to go. The time now. Don not be afraid anymore”,
On plan to end grafts in Abia’s ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs), when emerged as tthe state governor, Prince Uko Igwe, assured of prudence in utilization of the natural resources and public funds, endowed and accrued to state by the central government, towards enhancing important sectors of the Abia’s economy, ranging from Infrastructural projects, education, social Investment Development Programmes, maintenances of law, order etc, and vowed to put to the bar, excessive waste of public funds on un-impactful and unproductive ventures if rally rounded to become governor.
He also assured that he will inject such common wealths, at improving and building other meaningful Infrastructures that will create direct and positive impact in the standard of living by people of Abia state.
The Abia aspirant equally used the medium to emphasize on the urgent participation of youths towards deepening democratic process, and installing purposeful leaderships at levels in Abia, called on called on youths to join hands in the crusade to restore lost dignity of the state, and also put Abia on the right path of Infrastructural growths and economic prosperity.
The Abia aspirant also promised to create an environment where the citizens and residents will be safe and provide for them family without threats and harassments.
“Don’t be tempted by any form of gratifications. Don’t be afraid of threats. I assure you that you will be paid your entitlements. Also, I assure you better days ahead.No doubt, It will not be easy but as the saying goes where there is a will, there is a way. I promise you that under my watch “Moving Forward” will be the watchword”.
Igwe therefore, admonished those who are yet to register and revalidate for permanent Voters cards with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to do so, as it would enable them exercise and perform their civic rights and obligations in choosing competent people to ascend on the mantle of leadership of the state in the 2023 elections, and advised the electorates in Abia state, not to trade their conscience and votes, for any form of gratifications; and remains undeterred on their desires for good governance, so as to dismantle the clogs in the wheel of economic growths and development of the state.
