President Muhammadu Buhari, has urged the traditional rulers in the country to ensure they use their enormous clout and authority by engaging their subjects especially the youths to shun all acts of violence or actions that may negatively impact the 2023 general election.

Buhari, represented by the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, made the call while speaking at the occassion of the celebration of 25th anniversary on throne of the Ona of and chairman of the FCT council of chiefs, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, in Abaji, on Saturday.
He said every leader carried the burden of responsibility to be equipped for the future generations and a better society, even as he appreciated the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, for his efforts for ensuring that his subjects live in peace and harmony with each other.
*We should be reminded that nothing positive can be achieved under the atmosphere of rancour and violence. We should therefore, make conscious and collective efforts to ensure that peace and tranquility prevails as the election draws nearer, ” he said.
Buhari, while congratulating the monarch for marking his 25th year’s anniversary on throne, prayed for God to continue to give him the divine wisdom to lead the people of Abaji.
In his welcome address, said the stool of Ona of Abaji chiefdom have a long standing history right from when Abaji was under Kwara state before the creation of Abuja in 1976.
He said when FCT was created and Abaji became part of of the FCT, the stool of Ona of Abaji was the only stool with the highest and recognized graded staff of office among the towns and villages carved in the FCT which he said the reason why he was promoted to first class status.
The monarch, however, said since he ascended the throne 25 years ago, he has worked tirelessly together with his people to bring peace among different ethnic groups in the FCT especially in Abaji.
He also said he has ensured that several chieftancy disputes at various courts are amicably resolved by him, adding that his reign has always ensured cases of kidnappings and banditry in the area tackled to its barest minimum.
He therefore appealed to the government for opening of the completed university of technology in the area and transformation of FCT to a second tiers of government and among other pressing challenges.

Among dignitaries that attended the ceremony included representatives of Emir of Kano, Etsu of Patigi, Emir of Zamfara and top politicians in the FCT.
