2023: Funkekeme advises political communication strategists to dwell on issues.
Senior Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta State and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt. Hon Solomon Funkekeme, has advised political communication strategists and correspondents to consistently dwell on issues that would unite the people and enhance the advancement of constitutional democracy in Nigeria.
He gave the advise at the closing ceremony of the 4th Edition of Delta State Communication Workshop, DELCOM, in Asaba on Thursday, 22nd September, organised by the Office of the Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Communications.
Funkekeme told Delcom 2022 participants that electioneering media strategies must be devoid of hate speech, half truth, abuses and insults, pointing out that peace journalism plays essential roles in nation building and in crisis communication management.
He urged the 150 participants to adhere strictly to the ethics of the Journalism profession and to interrogate the governance process by clearly and efficiently articulating policies, programmes, candidates electioneering manifestos and government achievements, et al.
Okowa’s SPOLAD commended the Convener of Delcom and Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Communications, Dr. Barr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, for ensuring that the annual capacity building workshop featured some of the renowned Professors and scholars in the field of mass communication and journalism as lead trainers and trainers.
“I urge all Delcom participants to be patriotic and to dwell on issues that will benefit the people, emphasize on good governance, peace, unity and development.
“The knowledge and skills that you have acquired in the course of attending this workshop must be deployed in the discharged of your assigned official responsibilities, and as we go into the elections, your voices must be heard through constructive criticisms, objective crafting of statements, stories and articles.
“Our indefatigable governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has performed creditably well, and his numerous achievements in terms of completed projects, job and wealth creation, peace and security will obviously give PDP landslide victory in Delta State,” he said.
