A nonpartisan and pressure group in Nigeria, the League of Young Media Professionals (LYMP), has carried out an assessment of the track records of all senatorial aspirants and tipped an ex-member of the 7th National Assembly, Senator Nkechi Justina Nwaogu, as the best material to represent Abia central district at the red chamber of the National Assembly come 2023.
This is even as the media professional body, disclosed that it shall also embark on an assessment of all aspirants jostling for the Abia North and Abia south senatorial district seats in the 2023 general elections in Abia state.
A well-detailed report released by the League of Young Media Professionals (LYMP), on Tuesday, affirmed that Senator Nwaogu has the needed capacity, ability, competence, expertise, and wherewithal to restore the lost glory of the Abia central zone, ranging from Infrastructural deficits and economic backwardness.
This was contained in a release jointly signed by LYMP President, Comrade Samuel Aguiyi, the Secretary, Mr. Gbaruko Chimezie, and the Public Relation Officer (PRO), Chijindu Emeruwa, made available to journalists in Umuahia, the Abia capital on Wednesday.

The membership of the professional group is drawn from the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State in Southeast Nigeria.
The professional body also noted that Nwaogu has demonstrated uncommon and sterling leadership in their previous occupation of the exalted seat of Abia central district in the senate, adding also, that the 2023 aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), had displayed administrative prowess and responsive representations in the nation’s academia, which had equally led to the approval of her appointment as Chairman, Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Calabar, Cross Rivers State, and as well Commander of Order of Niger (CON) by then President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCON).
According to the organization, “we believe that she possessed the needed cognate experience and capacity and has earned distinctions in the art of lawmaking, which fostered tangible and visible results, mainly, in the areas of attractions and building of meaningful critical Infrastructures in most communities in six local government areas that formed the present day, Abia central district, that has as well, enhanced human and economic growths and developments.
“We recalled Nwaogu’s passion for a better Abia did not start today. She was a one-time Abia governorship Candidate of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), and she demonstrated uncompromised courage; contesting the gubernatorial seat of Abia in a political scene populated by men, and her political aspiration then was short-lived caused by the death of General Sani Abacha, the then Head of State, who was unveiling that republic. However, due to the genuine sagacity and unwavering courage exhibited by Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, the first civilian governor of the then newly created Abia appointed her a member of the State Economic Advisory Board from 1991 to 1993”.
Continuing, the professional group further affirmed that the Abia central senatorial hopeful, had garnered the enormous requisite experiences in legislative business and also navigated through the rudiments of the Nigerian parliaments based on previous capacities as a member of the House of Representatives that represented Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa south federal Constituency, and then, as the lawmaker that represented Abia central Senatorial zone of Abia State at the seventh Nigerian senate, positing that Mrs. Nwaogu stood as the “best suitable” aspirant, for the revered seat of the Abia central zone, as her track records both in the nation’s banking sector, administrative and political leadership, and community development, philanthropy, education, etc, pointed to the facts on the ground.
“Again, Senator Nwaogu has remarkably raised the bar in women participation in Abia and Nigeria politics, and has remained firm towards enhancing the increase of women involvement in policy formulation and implementation, through also encouragement, and that have undisputably, provided a greater sense of belongings to the Nigerian women in general”.
The Organization also noted Mrs. Nwaogu’s constructive postures and criticisms towards policies and programs of successive administrations in her home state (Abia), contributed immensely to the existing political harmony and stability currently enjoyed by political players and the people of the state, adding also, that she recently unveiled blueprints, that provided a well-defined template on youths, men and women empowerment and as well, developments; Infrastructure, healthcare delivery, enhancing the education systems in Abia central, the state and the nation at large.
The League of Young Media Professionals further used the medium to inform that it would in conjunction with civil society organizations ensure the emergence of Senator Nkechi Nwaogu as the next representative of Abia central districts of Abia State at the senate in 2023, aimed at entrenching the desired, effective and responsive leadership, and deepen and bringing democratic dividends to the doorsteps of the people of Abia central.
According to the group of young media personnel in their assessment report, encourage all eligible voters in Abia central districts, the state, and the country as a whole to go get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), to bring good governance anchored on true and effective leadership, to all facets of political leadership positions in Abia and the Nigeria federation in 2023.
“PVC is the only weapon the Abia populaces have to bring the desired changes in the leadership of the state and the nation. It is equally the only weapon possessed by the electorates to remove non-performing public or political office holders, and install the best hands to administer and harness our enormous and abundant natural resources in developing critical sectors of our economy”, the LYMP concluded.
