The leadership of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, in Delta Central Senatorial District of Delta State, with branches worldwide, has finally thrown it’s weight behind the presidential candidacy of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as well as the governorship candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori and his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.
President General of UPU, Chief Barr Ese Gam, made the disclosure on Wednesday at the union house in Uvwiamuge Agbarho, said PDP has done the needful by presenting credible candidates for the 2023 general elections, noting that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa are patriotic and consummate leaders with excellent track records, capacity and experience needed to take Nigeria out of her present pitiable state.
He said Nigeria has become laughing stock at the global stage, inarguably a sick in all aspects of her national life, occasioned by clueless leadership in the past nearly eight years, adding that UPU decided to endorse all 2023 PDP candidates on the ballots, more particularly Atiku and Okowa for President and Vice President, as well as, Sheriff and Onyeme for Governor and Deputy Governor in Delta State.
PG Gam also commended governor Okowa for ensuring that Delta Central got the 2023 governorship slot and expressed deep gratitude to God and appreciation to the governor, and in the same token assured Oborevwori that the entire Urhobo nation will vote PDP and her candidates across board.
He posited that Okowa’s result oriented economic reforms and infrastructure development across the state will be remembered many years to come, especially and for creating thousands of jobs and wealth for Deltans through various skills acquisition and human capacity development strategies, noting that if voted as Vice President, Nigerians stand to benefit more from the enormous foresight and leadership competence of the incumbent governor.

Chief Gam disclosed that Delta PDP governorship candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, have been assisting the union whenever he was called upon to do so, describing him as a Pan Deltan, a humble, respectful and an illustrious son of Urhobo nation that is eminently qualified with amazing wealth of experience to govern Delta State after Okowa’s tenure on May 29, this year.
Responding, Oborevwori emphasized the need for all eligible voters in Urhobo nation of Delta Central and across the state to vote PDP on Saturday, February 25 and March 11, saying that with Okowa as Vice President, Delta State, like any other state in Nigeria, shall benefit in multifaceted ways because of the laudable policies and programmes encapsulated in Atiku’s manifesto titled; “My Covenant with Nigerians.”
He urged UPU leadership to mobilize eligible voters with PVCs through the Presidents of the 24 Urhobo kingdoms for the landslide victory of PDP in the State. Oborevwori reaffirmed his readiness and total commitment to be a servant-governor for all Deltans, irrespective of political affiliations, including non indigenes resident in the state.
The Chairman of the Forum of UPU presidents in the 24 kingdoms, Chief Godwin Notoma, and all Branch Presidents, including the leader of UPU Women wing, Chief Mrs Rose Oghene, prominent sons and daughters of Urhobo nation from all walks of life were in attendance.
