Police repel bandits in Benue community, kill one

Police operatives have repelled the attack by bandits on Tse Gaagum village in Ukemberegya, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to report, the security operatives have killed one of the bandits who invaded the village in the early hours of Wednesday.

Source from the community, said the bandits were said to have stormed the village around 4 am and attacked the villagers.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the villagers made a distress call to security operatives who responded promptly and gave the bandits a hot chase.

The source said, “The bandits stormed the village around 4 am on Wednesday and took away motorcycles and other valuables.

“Luckily, a resident of the village made a call to policemen and they succeeded in chasing them and, in the process, killed one of them and recovered a motorcycle.”

When contacted, the state governor’s Special Adviser to on Security and Internal Affairs, Joseph Har, confirmed the report and commended the security operatives for their prompt response to distress call.Kogi Assembly urges Police to intensify surveillance as robbery, kidnappings resurge.

Har said, “I got the information that security men in Logo who received a distress call from residents of Tse Gaagum village early hours of today (Wednesday) shot dead one of the bandits who attacked the community.

“They succeeded in recovering a motorcycle belonging to one of the villagers.”

Efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer, S, Catherine Anene, were not successful as her phone rang out.
