Kogi Assembly screened, confirmed Engr. Bashir Gegu as Commissioner designate, to be inaugurated today

The political leader of Kogi local government area and immediate past Commissioner in the State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural resources, Engineer Mohammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu could best be described as a very lucky man and ideal whose time has come.

He is also known as Super Commissioner during past administration of his mentor and benefactor, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello’s reign.
His recent nomination leading to his appointment by Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, on 27th January during handover ceremony. When Bashir Gegu’s name was mentioned the mammoth crowd shouted in solidarity ‘It’s a well-deserved appointment considering his contribution to his host Koton-karfe, Kogi LGA and State as a whole.
At the Kogi State House of Assembly complex Lokoja, Former Commissioner Bashir Gegu was cleared and confirmed alongside his nominated colleagues by the Honourable members.
Addressing Journalists shortly after his confirmation at the Assembly complex, Engr. Bashir Gegu, promised to justify the confidence repose on and noted that it’s another opportunity to work harder and as well to consolidate on the achievements of the past administration
Global Times Nigeria reports that Kogi State House of Assembly had cleared all the Commissioners preparatory for inauguration slated for today at Kogi Government House Lokoja.
Bashir Gegu, a Commissioner nominee is a native of Gegu Baki in Kogi LG and had assured to bring his wealth of experience in the discharge of his assignment, added that he won’t disappoint Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo.

He thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the appointment, promised to justify the confidence reposed on him by the Governor even as expressed confidence in the ability of the Governor to meet with the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the State.
Similarly, the State House of Assembly has also screened 16 Commissioner Nominees and nine other Nominees with portfolios nominated by the new State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo.
Our correspondent reports that among the 16 screened commissioner nominees, 7 are returnees while 9 are new ones.
The seven commissioner returnees are: Salami Ozigi-Deedat, Bashir Abubakar-Gegu, Wemi Jones, Kingsley Fanwo, Timothy Ojoma, Asiwaju Idris-Asiru and Mohammed Abdulmutalib.
The nine new commissioner nominees screened by the house are: Farouk Danladi,
Adams Abdulaziz, Joseph Oluwasegun-Stephen (JOS), Muzi Yinusa-Abdullahi, Rabiatu Okute, Fatima Momoh, Mohammed Yusuf,
Sunday Faleke and Abanika Taye. Kogi Prohibits Traditional Rulers from issuing consent letters to miners.
Other nominees with portfolios, whose names were sent to the house for confirmation are: Ali Bello – Chief of Staff to the governor, Hilary Ojoma – Deputy Chief of Staff, Elijah Evinemi – Head of service.
Jerry Omodara – State Security Adviser and Isah Ismail – Special Adviser on Media.
The rest are: Sulaiman Ibrahim – Director General Protocol, Oladele John Nihi – Chief Press Secretary,
Shaibu Oricha – Director General Government House Administration and Femi Adegboyega – State Legal Adviser.
Due to time lag as claimed by the house, all the 16 commissioner nominees only appeared, introduced themselves and took a bow and left without answering a single question from the lawmakers.
The speaker of the house, Alhaji Umar Yusuf, commended members of the house for a job well done at screening the 25 nominees, whom he described as credible and qualified sons and daughters of Kogi.
Yusuf tasked the nominees to live up to expectations of Governor Ododo, whom he said nominated them to assist him pilot the affairs of the state to greater height.
Our correspondent reports that supporters, well-wishers and All Progressives Congress, APC, stalwarts in their number were at the assembly complex in solidarity with the Kogi LG born politician, Engr. Mohammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu.
