Kogi ACReSAL Committee Holds Quarterly Meeting, reaffirms unwavering support for project’s success

The Kogi State ACReSAL Quarterly Technical Committee Meeting was convened on 10/5/24. The meeting held at the office of the Kogi State Acresal.

The meeting had in attendance all the Committee Members who are Directors drawn from from relevant Ministries and Agencies.

Committee Members used the forum to discuss the progress of work on the 2023/
2024 cleared work plan, as well as the review that has been submitted for the World Bank’s approval.

The Kogi State ACReSAL has a two-tier supervisory organ that oversees the smooth running of the affairs of the Project.

The Acresal State Steering Committee, Chaired by the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Co Chaired by Hon. Commissioner for Water Resources and Agriculture with Permanent Secretaries of relevant MDAs and agencies as members.

The State Technical Committee, the second supervisory organ, is chaired by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment.

Dr. Saidu Jibril, Chairman of the Committee and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Ecological Management, presided over the Meeting.

The Chairman highlighted the project’s potential, said it is geared towards restoring degraded lands, improvement of livelihoods as well as to address environmental concerns across the State.

The Chairman used the meeting to commend the dedication of the Committee Members as well as the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) since the project’s inception. He urged for their continued support in achieving the set goals and objectives.

Dr. Jibril pledged to also help the SPMU in achieving its objectives, expressed gratitude to the State Government, the World Bank for their sustained support and guidance towards the realization of the projects.

 

In her remarks, the State Project Coordinator, Acresal, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, OON, informed the Committee Members about the prepared work plan.

She added that it took cognizance of the interests of the relevant Ministries involved in the Project, that is; Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development as well as that of Water Resource’s. She disclosed to the Committee that the work plan has been submitted to the World Bank.

The Project Coordinator emphasized the project’s ambitious goal, which is geared at afforestation on 10,000 hectares of land. She called for collaboration by the relevant stakeholders towards achieving the expected target.

The Project Coordinator further outlined all the completed and ongoing activities that are captured in the work plan.

The various Committee Members, in their separate remarks, reaffirmed their unwavering support for the project’s success. They lauded the efforts of the World Bank, State Government and the State Project Coordinator of Acresal.
