The much awaited Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), which is a prelude to the coming governorship election in Edo State, took off as scheduled yesterday, Monday May 27th, 2024. There was massive turnout of eligible voters in all the centers marked for the exercise across the State.

The exercise was however, delayed from starting off by 9am due to what the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officials attributed to network issues from the ICT headquarters in Abuja. The INEC officials also said that they were taken aback by the massive turnout of eligible voters.

In his reaction, the Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Tony Aziegbemi, hailed the eligible voters for coming out to exercise their franchise. He attributed the renewed interest shown by the people of Edo State in registering to the determination of the people to ensure that they participate in electing who governs them. The chairman said,

“ I want to appreciate the eligible voters in Edo State for heeding to our call for them to ignore the antics of the APC and come out in their numbers to register. The massive turnout must be giving the APC handlers goose pimples because they have seen the handwriting on the walls that the people are determined to push them far away from Dennis Osadebay House. Honestly, I sympathize with them.

“ I want to use this medium to appeal to INEC to release more BVAS so that as much as possible, eligible voters can be captured within the limited period. I also want to appeal to all eligible voters not to be discouraged but ensure that they register so that in the future, they can be counted as part of the people who rose up to defend Edo State when evil forces wanted to take over the state on September 21st, 2024″.

It will be recalled that the All Progressive Congress, APC, had called on INEC not to embark on the CVR rolling out baseless allegations of compromises between INEC and the PDP. The PDP has however, come out to deny the allegations accusing the APC of always shouting wolf while it is actually planning evil.

The PDP therefore called on eligible voters to turnout enmass to register a call the people have obviously decided to yield to which has obviously sent a signal concerning the direction of the majority of Edo people in the coming governorship election.
