Police arrest lawmaker, others over Banditry
Global Times Nigeria gathered that the police operatives in Zamfara State, has arrested some high profile individuals over alleged involvement in banditry activities in the State.
Muhammad Dalijan, the Zamfara State Police Commissioner, disclosed that they’ve arrested several high-profile individuals, including a member of the State House of Assembly and a former local government chairman, on charges related to banditry.
This was announced during a visit by Thomas Parker, the officer in charge of the Counterterrorism Unit under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), at the command headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State’s capital.

Global Times Nigeria investigation revealed that the Police Commissioner did not disclose the names of those arrested but emphasized the need for international support in order to curb banditry in the State.
He urged the United Nation (UN) to provide similar assistance in Zamfara as they did in Maiduguri, including training on investigative techniques and the establishment of forensic laboratories to expedite the investigation and prosecution of suspects link to banditry.
While responding to the appeal, Thomas Parker, stated that the UN team was in Zamfara following a request from Governor Dauda Lawal as part of effort to take onslaught to banditry hideout.
Parker however highlighted the UN’s commitment to assessing the security situation in Zamfara to understand the root causes and challenges of the ongoing threats, with the aim of providing effective support.
It would be recalled that there had been unabated kidnapping, banditry and other heneous crimes perpetuated by gunmen across the country.
