NMA Crisis: How Kogi Ex-NMA Chairman was removed for supporting Gov Ododo, Ex-Gov Bello, Prof Bala, others
….His surgical outreach in Okene, benovelence also cost his seat
The support of the now erstwhile Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Kogi Chairman, Dr Baoku Olusola for the current NMA President, his continual praises of former Governor Yahaya Bello, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the attempt by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Kogi State Council under his leadership to organise her annual free Medical outreach in Okene, has been uncovered to be the major reasons some elders of the Association from Kogi East removed the former Chairman.
Findings revealed that some past elders of the association, with the support of a Chief Medical Director, said to be against the current president of NMA, Professor Bala Audu, past and previous administration in the State swore to truncate the tenure of the former Chairman who was always out loud and bold in support of the above mentioned men
Hiding under the quest for good governance and accountability, the past leaders and the CMD ganged up against the present NMA Chairman, with frivolous excuses to truncate his tenure and most importantly frustrate his plans for the unprecedented surgical outreach planned for Kogi central
It will be recalled that last year, the NMA organised a free medical outreach in Anyigba in Dekina local government area, where people were treated for various ailments including cervical and prostate cancer amongst other illnesses.
The plan to therefore organise not only medical but surgical outreach in Okene with arrangements already concluded for this year is causing disaffection amongst the elders, with 95% of them alleged to be from the Eastern flank of the State and heavily supported and funded by a CMD whose dislike for the state Government is obvious and palpable.
The motives findings revealed is aimed at the administration, a move the current chairman was said to have resisted vehemently, thus causing the elders to call for his planned impeachment and a vote of no confidence.
Some NMA members who spoke on condition of anonymity say the decision by the elders is seen to be divisive, rather than promote unity saying
” We told the Chairman to be neutral in the past NMA Presidential elections but he was one of the strongest supporter of Prof Bala Audu and was seen wearing his shirts all over the place . He was also always in the media supporting the state Government which so many of our elders are not happy about ”
The attempt to remov the chairman which did not go down well with some members is seriously tearing the NMA Kogi apart, as the outreach, ordinarily is part of the corporate social responsibility of the Association and now it’s looking like that great event is totally truncated
Recalled that the present NMA Chairman has brought in several innovations since his assumption of office, with the free medical outreach as part of his thematic agenda.
