BY ABUBAKAR YUSUF.
The appointment of Arc Sunny Echono as Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), two years down the line has attracted commendation particularly going from his versed experience in policy, administration and politics that had been the bane of development across the country.
Saddling him at this critical point in time with the management of infrastructure, research among other demanding issues at the Nigerian universities was a testament of his grounded experience and background in all ramifications.
Having rose to the top echelon of the civil service to become Permanent Secretary and served meritoriously in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government (MDA’s), no doubt his wealth of experience, will be a plus to the development of our Universities in the country.
The concerted policy of the new administration under the new Executive Secretary, Echono through the needed reforms in the area of infrastructure, research among many others led to the completion of 70 various projects across states and federal universities in the country.
This was in addition to sane policy development to be abreast with the best practices and in line with government policy thrust and programs designed by the fund.
Aside redesigning policies and programs of TETFUND on inception, Arc Sunny Echono brought on board various reforms and innovation that had transformed the University system in the country.
He had made an in depth in road into genuine research proposal and development and also preclude beneficiaries schools and academician from not only abandoning their proposals, but the entire program for greener pasture.
With Echono, gone were the days when lecturers abscond in the course of training locally and internationally, especially during foreign program against the lay down procedures.
Having stabilized the system through due process of carrying out the activities of the fund in line with the standard and best practices, it became difficult for the nay sayers to assess the fund using subtle and other informal ways that is against the lay down procedures.
Having achieved so much through transparent policy thrust that denied various sharp practices at the fund, it had become apparent for the fifth columnist to develop thick skin capable of resisting the good leadership system enthroned by Arch Sunny Echono.
The bogus clamour and needless alarm by sponsored fake Civil Society Organisations CSOs and their collaborators negated the good intentions of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who had given credence to the performance of the Executives Secretary, through the Ministry of Education.
For Arc Sunny Echono his determination to take the fund to greater heights in the area of policy implementation is unwavering and needful, particularly to affect the robust system desiring of Nigeria universities across the country.
All hands must be on deck to continue to support the laudable programs and objectives of Sunny Echono, whose intentions is to diversify infrastructures, research development and advancement in our Universities both at the state and federal level.
