Kogi Police arrests Inspector for robbery as 8 cultists nabbed in Kogi Poly.

Kogi State Police Command has arrested a Police Inspector, Aminu Mohammed, in connection with the robbery at a neighbouring residence to his duty station, ‘C’ Division in Lokoja.

The Police Public Relations Officer,(PPRO), Kogi state command, SP William Aya, who confirmed the arrest of the officer alongside accomplices , said ”luck ran out of the officer following the activities of a notorious gang of armed robbers who have been terrorising the area, stealing household valuables and cars.

According to sources, the car was trailed to the workshop of the police Inspector’s special panel beater known as Arome Moses, who was caught trying to deface the car by changing the car’s colour at Ochadamu near Anyigba, in Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

The source explained that those who knew the vehicle and were aware of the robbery, quickly raised alarm upon sighting the car.

According to the Police, the plate number of the vehicle has already been changed to an Abuja number, and a car dealer’s receipt, backdated to 2020, were presented by the suspect Officer as his evidence of ownership.,

It was after raising the alarm, that the men of the Quick Response Unit attached to the Police Area Command were invited, and the panel beater was promptly arrested.

One of the members of the armed robbery gang, earlier declared wanted by the Police for other crimes, confessed to the crime and named the police officer as the mastermind.

He confessed that they were contracted to rob the house of the owner of the car for the sole aim of getting the car for him.

In another development, Kogi State Polytechnic joint security team, on Tuesday arrested three students of the institution and five others suspected to be members of a secret cult and hard drug peddlers.

The arrests were made during the ongoing second-semester examination for the 2023/2024 academic session.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Director, Public Relations and Protocol of the Polytechnic, Omale Uredo, listed the students apprehended who are all of HND II in the Department of Business Administration as
Ajayi Oladipo, Isenre Ayomide, and Omonijo Sunday.

The other five are students, are all said to be from Ekiti State, based in Abuja include Otitoju Christopher, Babatope Ayomide, Isaiah Babatunde, Shina Ayodeji, and Makinde Olalekan.

Oredo explained that the arrest of the suspects was a result of proactive measures put in place by the management of the institution to checkmate infiltration of cultists and other outlawed groups and individuals who were reported to be planning to enter the campus with dangerous weapons in connivance with some cyber-crime suspects popularly known as yahoo yahoo.

Their intention, according to the Director, Public Relations, was to cause harm to their targets and commotion on the campus during the ongoing second-semester examination, in the guise of their end-of-examination graduation “celebration” rituals which the Management had earlier banned due to security concerns.
