Oshiomhole’s So-Called Respect for the Benin Kingdom Is Just a Cover for His True Disdain

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State and the senator representing Edo North

By Wisdom Imafidon

Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s proclaimed respect for the Benin Kingdom stands in stark contrast to his actions, which reveal a troubling pattern of betrayal and exploitation. While he has publicly championed the interests of the Benin people, his tenure as Governor exposed a series of broken promises and neglect that betray his true priorities.

Oshiomhole promised to transform the College of Education in Ekiadolor into a world-class institution, similar to the Edo University in his hometown of Iyamho. However, while Iyamho flourishes, Ekiadolor remains in disrepair, highlighting his selective investment priorities. He also pledged to address the erosion issues in Benin through the Benin City Water Storm project, but his administration left behind dangerous ditches and incomplete projects, with critical funds unaccounted for.

Furthermore, his influence in the Tinubu administration has led to a skewed distribution of federal appointments, favoring Edo North, his home region, and sidelining Benin interests. This starkly contradicts his professed respect for our Kingdom and its people.

Oshiomhole’s tenure was also marked by unfulfilled promises, such as his failed attempt to bring a ShopRite mall to Benin City. Instead, a mere signboard at Dumez Road junction was left as a symbol of deception. In contrast, Governor Obaseki’s administration delivered the Benin City Mall, which includes a functional ShopRite, demonstrating real progress.

Now, in his old age, being an elder spokesman to an incompetent stooge in his party who he wants to use to gain access to Edo state treasury to further ravage our revenues for his illicit pleasures, Oshiomhole’s threats to close the ShopRite franchise appear driven by jealousy and pettiness, disregarding the livelihoods of Edo’s young citizens who would lose jobs and their pride. His so-called respect for our traditions is nothing more than a façade for disdain and manipulation.

Benin people, it’s time for us to come together and reject Oshiomhole’s divisive tactics. Let us unite with our brothers and sisters in Edo Central and Edo North to support Dr. Asue Ighodalo and the PDP, ensuring a brighter and more inclusive future for all. Let us support Dr Asuerinme Ighodalo and Barr Osarodion Ogie, men wey sabi! Let us vote for PDP in September to usher in prosperity for all.

Oba Gha Tor, Okpere. Ise!
