The Inter Party Advisory Council IPAC is proposing the transfer of local government elections into 774 Councils through the amendment of Electoral Act and the Constitution to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC going forward.

While submitting a 35 point proposal for the amendment , IPAC through its National Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantelle also advocated the conducts of elections in the country in one day.

While asking the joint committee of the National Assembly on Electoral matters to expedite action during the interactive section , IPAC stated that it will restore confidence in the political system of the country.

The Inter Party Advisory Council IPAC also asked the National Assembly to regulate campaign finances, electronic transmission of results, penalty for electoral act violators to deepen Nigeria democracy, election of electoral umpire’s rather than appointment among others.

According to Dantelle , “A single day elections will reduce costs, minimize destruction to economic and academic activities, maintain voters enthusiasm throughout the process. this is the beauty of legislative democracy, the will of the people is sacrosanct.”

In his remarks, Federal Lawmakers Shamsudeen Abiodun , Adedayo Balogun and Clement Nwankwo supported the new amendment to the electoral act and the constitution.

Fourteen out of the eighteen political parties adopted the position of IPAC to the electoral and constitutional amendment.
