…A bill to establish Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund has been passed into law
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has advanced a bill to its second reading, seeking to provide regulations for mining communities’ issuance of land consent and community agreements to mining entities.
Similarly, the House is legislating on a bill aimed at curbing indiscriminate establishment of private health facilities and quackery in the state.
The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau announced this during the House proceedings in Lafia today.
The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau has said that the House is taking measures to regulate the issuance of mining consents by traditional and community leaders to mining companies in the state in order to address conflicts and other negative issues surrounding the process.
It was reported that when the House reconvened today Tuesday, the bill seeking to regulate and control the issuance of land consents and community agreements to mining entities by mining communities sponsored by member representing Kokona East constituency Hon. Daniel Ogazi took the centre stage as it was slated for second reading.
The sponsored of the bill Hon. Daniel Ogazi gave the substance of the bill calling on his colleagues to support it to see the light of the day.
He spoke extensively on the benefit and impact of the bill to include maintenance of peace and unity in mining communities, ensure that mining consents are regulated and given through approved authorities, benefits of the host communities and security of lives and properties of the people among others.
While supporting the bill to scale second reading, the lawmakers who spoke Rt. Hon. Muhammad Oyanki the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Suleiman Azara the House Leader, Hon. Hajarat Danyaro, Hon. Baba Ali, Hon. Ven-Bawa, Hon. Musa Ekye, Hon. Solomon AKwashiki, Hon. Musa Gude, Hon. Onarigu Kana and Hon. Muhammed Omadefu observed that Nasarawa State is a seat base of mineral resources.
They however observed that there is insignificant impact where foreign miners are shortchanging the state, saying if the bill sees the light of the day, mining communities will develop and insecurity will be curtailed.
The also advocate the full involvement of Ministries of land and survey, that of environment and the judiciary in agreements with the miners and the host communities as well as an outlined of percentage of funds for the development of the mining communities.
The Speaker Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau refers the bill to the House Standing Committee on Environment to do a thorough job considering the importance of the bill and report to the House 14th of October, 2024.
In another development, Nasarawa State is at the verge of having Education Trust Fund the moment Governor Abdullahi Sule ascent to a bill in that wise as passed by the house of assembly at the Tuesday’s plenary.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau informed the Clerk to provide him the clean copy for his final perusal and onwards transmission to the Governor for his ascent.
If the Governor okayed the bill the trust fund will be chaired by a retired seasoned educationist and from the money accrued, 50% will be allocated to tertiary institutions, 30% to secondary schools and 20% to the basic edition and in all, 70% will be channeled to capital projects and training will gulp 30% respectfully.
Similarly, A Bill for a Law to establish the Nasarawa State Fire and Rescue Service Agency to provide for the suppression of Fires, Rescue of Persons and Animals from Hazardous Situations and for Other Matters Connected Thereto has passed first reading at the floor of the House where the Speaker slated 23rd of this month for Second reading.
In the same vein, A bill for a Law to Establish Nasarawa State Private Health Institutions Management Agency charged with the responsibility of regulating private health facilities and training institutions, licensing and supervision of health services in the state as proposed by the State Government has passed first reading.
The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau slated 24th of this Month for Second reading of the bill.
If the bill scales through, quackery and illegal establishment of health facilities in Nasarawa State will be control and curtailed.
