The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State assures its teeming members and the general public that there is in existence and functioning, one body of authentic Executive Committees of the party in the state from the wards to the local government areas and the state levels.
This assurance becomes necessary following activities by a group of persons claiming to have inaugurated parallel structures of the party in the state.
For emphasis and clarification, the authentic Executive Committee of our great party for Benue State consists of 41 members among whom are 14 State Working Committee (SWC) members and 27 State Assistant Official (SAO) members all under the leadership of State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Awulu Adaji.
It is on record that the Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji led Executive Committee is the product of an elaborate and lawful process evolving from the Ward Congresses of the party conducted on Saturday, 27th July, 2024, in the 276 Council wards of the state at which Ward Executives of the party and 3 ad hoc delegates were elected.
On August 10, 2024, the party held its Local Government Congresses to elect Local Government Executives and National delegates in 17 local government areas of the state, delaying to do so in the remaining 6 pending the determination of a law suit brought by some aggrieved members of the party, which was duly struck out by the competent court on 9th September, 2024, paving the way for the exercise in the remaining 6 areas conducted on Thursday, 21st September, 2024.
The Executives of the party and the delegates elected at the ward and local government congresses all formed the lawful Electoral College for the State Congress which was duly held on Thursday, 3rd October, 2024 at which the Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji led Executive Committee was elected and inaugurated together with the Local Government Area Chairmen of the party in Makurdi.
All of those congresses of the party referenced above were conducted under the supervision of Electoral Panels appointed by the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja with the Caretaker Committee earlier appointed under the leadership of Senator (AVM Rtd.) Napoleon Bali to run the affairs of the party pending the election of a substantive Executive Committee.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the relevant security agencies also monitored the conduct of the congresses at the various levels and stages to ensure the transparency and integrity of the process
The issue of a parallel organ of the PDP in Benue State, therefore, does not arise and the party enjoins its members and the public to totally ignore any group of persons purporting to constitute any organ of the party other than the duly elected and inaugurated ones.
Benue PDP, however, warns that it will not tolerate acts deliberately designed and targeted at undermining its lawful authority as vested in it under law, and will mete appropriate sanctions as provided in the party’s laws on those found guilty of such acts.
It urges those with grievances to seek relief and remedy through the appropriate channels provided by law.
