APC wins 13 chairmanship seats , opposition takes 7 councillorship positions in Nasarawa LG Polls

In Nasarawa State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in all 13 local government chairmanship elections.

Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), announced the results of the council polls held on Saturday during an official declaration on Sunday.

The NASIEC Chairman pointed out that, opposition political parties also featured prominently in the outcome of the elections, with the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) winning two in Doma Local Government Area and Social Democratic Party (SDP) garnering 5 councillorship seats in Keffi Local Government Area respectively.

According to Wandai, the election’s success and peacefulness were due to Governor Abdullahi Sule’s leadership and support, coupled with the commission’s experience from observing various elections across the country.

He also expressed gratitude to the members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for their cooperation and approval of the Commission’s requests, facilitating the conduct of impartial and trustworthy elections.

“I commend the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Sule, for his invaluable support, which enabled our progress. He guaranteed our independence and unrestricted operation.

“I would also like to express my appreciation to the state House of Assembly members for their cooperation and approval of our requests, which enabled the conduct of a credible election.” he stated.

The NASIEC Chairman stated that his experience in overseeing elections conducted by State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) and the National Electoral Commission (INEC) greatly facilitated the smooth and peaceful conduct of the local government elections held on Saturday.

He stated that they have compiled observations from local government elections across all 36 states, as well as INEC elections, which form the basis of their findings.

Wandai officially announced the APC candidates as winners of the chairmanship election, with the following results: Lafia (217573), Doma (70545), Keana (35094), Awe (59206), Obi (93486), Keffi (74419), Kokona (53057), Akwanga (82075), Toto (43792), Karu (146450), Wamba (39377), Nasarawa (96358), and Nasarawa-Eggon (94497).

Wandai observed that 14 political parties participated in the electoral process, signifying their trust, and commended technology integration for enabling the commission to execute an efficient and well-coordinated council election.

The commission’s robust awareness campaign, IPAC’s cooperation, and security agencies’ resolute determination to maintain peace and order were cited as key factors contributing to the election’s success.
